Finally an alternative to the factory ipod intergration

nice find boneman!

I have an Ipod 3rd Generation and I cannot connect it using the bluetooth. I tried the same steps I used for my phone but when my Ipod searches for a device it does not find anything. Help please!

That looks pretty cool, but check out the Pioneer AppRadio, launching in a little less than 3 weeks. If it's as nice as it sounds, and it gets more app support, it should be the best iPod/iPhone solution available!

Funny i got rid of my iphone because of a bunch of reasons but one was the bluetooth DATA screen in my MS3 being BLANK and i got pulled over for having the phone in my hand (how else am i to change music or make a call? my BT screen doesnt sync).

I got a DROID and it's the SAME problem! Mazda is giving me a dock for it for free because THEIR system updates are old. My salesman has a 2.5 year old non droid phone and it works just fine. but the EVO and my samsung charge ... nada

both of these options are not for me though due to the tech package i have :(

Just got off the phone with Mazda and they do not support ANY phone newer than 3 years old BT AVRCP profile. They MIGHT fix it in the fall.... MAYBE they said and they wont put it in writing. I am SO angry about this because I sold my iPhone4 and went back to Verizon and got a samsung droid charge because MAZDA said it's guaranteed to work.... cept it doesnt and they're shrugging shoulders.

Find where or who ever told you that (as long as it was somebody/publication on the Mazda side) and bring that to the dealership with you and have them fix it til it works. Basically that's all you can do. Without bringing in proof of something like that, I don't see the dealership doing much for you.

I have noticed no problems with audio quality. Bluetooth does compress audio, but if you're already listening to mp3s (even 320kbps mp3s) it shouldn't be affected.

"Uncompressed CD-quality stereo audio uses a 1.411-Mbps bandwidth. [...] Bluetooth, for example, stipulates a maximum available bandwidth for A2DP (advanced audio-distribution profile) of 768 kbps. So, for high-quality stereo audio, it is necessary to use some form of audio coding to reduce the required data rate." from http://www.edn.com/article/472081-Bluetooth_Sufficient_fidelity_even_for_average_listeners_.php

So bluetooth can transmit at 768kbps, far above 320kbps mp3. To be perfectly honest, I have noticed no degradation in audio quality over bluetooth from what I normally listen to (320kbps mp3s on pretty decent (audiotechnica studio monitor) headphones, although it needs some pretty serious equalization in the car. The Bose bass is really powerful and it sounds great, theres just a ton of it.

I actually think the audio sounds worse over the aux jack if I am charging my phone; the switched-mode power supplies used in phone chargers add a lot of noise to the ground of the phone. And the ground of the phone is the ground of the aux jack, so unless your phone and car have been designed with a perfect grounding system, you will get noise using the analog out of your phone. (and the two would have to be designed together to ensure this). My phone is an HTC evo so its not some el-cheapo crap, and it still has this grounding issue.

other solution would be to get a much higher quality phone charger, but they don't really make those and theres no way of knowing if one will be better than another until you try the new one.

just found out that apple doesnt license mp3 or AAC compression for its bluetooth interface, so it defaults to SBC compression which is much worse and will affect the audio quality when re-compressing mp3s. which would explain why you hear bad audio (iphone) and I don't (android device).

this might be different on the iphone 4 and ipad 2, worth checking out if you own / plan to own those devices.

i really like the bluetooth as it prevents me from having unsightly wires running up and down my center console :)
