hey guys I ordered the autoexe front lip from dgmotorsports and I got it in fiber glass instead of carbon fiber, cheaper too, anyways just thought I'd let everyone know
Well, you know what they say about that: Impreza <> Protege.
The problems associated with having a rarer, cooler car (as we do) are offset in the pocketbook. The more Protege's they sell, the cheaper our parts will be, the more chagrinned we will become that we can't go to the 7-11 without seeing 12 of them...
Sheesh! Now where did I misplace that perfect world...it was just here somewhere...
I too have now ordered the lip in fiberglass. I didn't want the lip in carbon, but I will be buying the carbon hood in a couple of months. Won't be painting the hood though.
if you haven't noticed, it's not even a full autoexe lip replica. it's HALF of the autoexe lip spoiler... so in reality, you're paying $500 cdn for HALF of an autoexe lip replica. PLUS you gotta get that s*** painted! man... spend that on something else! but i guess if you like it, go for it.
Urethane can flex (to a certain point)...say if you hit a curb or cement parking thing
Fiberglass is rigid therefore it cracks easily if you hit something and chips pretty easily too...if you hit a rock or other debris it can tear a chunk of the fiberglass off...they do sell repair kits though...
I'm not sure how the two materials compare in terms of paint bonding...
I thought it's a full Autoexe replica, just one option to get is a 1/2 carbon fiber and 1/2 fiberglass replica rather than all carbon or all figerglass. The pic on the site looks just like the regular one.
The front lip from DGM is an exact replica of Autoexe, check my pics out and see for yourself, afterall I am the one who gave my front lip to have them make it http://photos.yahoo.com/docrod2_99
Urethane is better, as Antoine said, since it's more flexible and more resistant to cracking. However, it's more trouble to paint since I recall one needs some sorrt of an adhesive mixed into the paint for it to go on properly unlike fiberglass. And if I recall properly, it's harder to mold urethane into all those funky shapes you see most fiberglass kits to be, for example, the so-called "veilside" style kits out there for various car (AKA Wings West Aggressor .. : ). Ugh. But, high quality fiberglass is supposed to be quite durable anyways, as I am sure the DGM stuff is. It's just those crap $400 full bodykits that probably suck.
