Lookin at renting the tool and gettin some local cars ready for bigger tires. I'm gonna need bigger wheels first, but being prepared never hurt. Anyone else in southeastern WI interested? I think I could pull off hosting... about a half hour from milwaukee.

If we can get a couple people together we can get this done for probably 10 bucks each... so, anybody in?

yeah keep me posted when you get rid of a set brian. i may even pop a trade sometime. so let me know!

and to set things straight with carl and his "wheel knowledge". when i was running a 7.5" wide wheel with a 225/45/17 and +45 offset i BARELY rubbed in the rear...and i mean barely. and according to the wheel offset calculator with a 7" wide wheel with a +40 offset will have 11mm more space away from the strut and the outside of the rim will RETRACT 4mm, which means will stick out away from the car 4mm less than my previous setup. therefore i won't rub :). im gonna run a 215/45/17 to be safe but yay for no rub rub!!!

yeah, but you're also adding clearance with camber.... a sacrifice I'm not willing to make.

on stock suspension and alignment, I guarantee with a +40 offset on any protege sedan, 215 width tires will rub if you compress the suspension enough.

As for your change, what you're literally doing is taking 5mm out of each side of the tire, and then pushing the whole tire out 5mm. so you SHOULD end up in the same place, all other things being equal. going down in wheel width will only change where the wheel is.. and the issue is tire clearance.

im lowered WAY more than stock...it'll be fine. my camber may be a little off for daily driving but its perfect for hard cornering cause tires then touch road equally on the power side. plus our suspension setup has a little play alignment wise even with my drop. s*** a 225 falken azeni tire which i had equals to just over 230mm cause the sidewalls are beefy and flat. so with a 215 i'll have no rub issues....plus lower offset wheels look baller....im no longer going to race the car when it is fixed at least until i get the spare motor fully built. just gonna be the car that people look at and go WTF is that?!?!? hahaha im down for this party thing though. i'd bring beer!

I don't have any immediate plans for suspension and wheel upgrades, but would rolled fenders on a p5 look ridiculous if it only had the stockers?

Down for the party. I would also bring beverages that are delicious.

rolling the fenders does not change the appearance of the vehicle. just allows clearance for either a lower offset, wider tire, or both.

So, if I want some bigger shoes, lets say 18x8, i'd need to roll my fenders? A quick google search makes it seem like there is little chance for damage. I'll show up and after seeing someone do it to their car i might be more inclined to do it on mine.
