here is a pic of my del sol that i shaved and molded, the gas door is going next. i drive this and have no problems with cracking even across the the top in the rear, it flexes quite a bit with the roof off. fiberglass is really strong when it is mixed right. too much hardner and it gets to hot and causes it to become weak and brittle, and thats why you get cracks.

oh one more thing you can get the spring compressors from autozone , you can rent them they have alot tools like that that most people dont need to have all the time.

If you're going to autozone to rent a spring compressor, you might as well get a tie-rod separator while you're at it.
