The hot-shoe Vectra uses a heavily revised chassis, tuned to handle the engine's power. A new evolution of Vauxhall's IDS-plus system is used, making the Vectra the first production car from a mainstream manufacturer to feature the latest generation electronic damping control, according to Vauxhall. The system aims to minimise body movements with the help of two separate processing modules. Vauxhall claims that this results in less body roll but not at the expense of ride comfort. And to rein in all that performance, the VXR's brakes are the largest fitted to any production Vauxhall, with 345mm diameter discs at the front, and 292mm at the rear.
The Vectra VXR, which will be available with 19-inch wheels, features a deeper front bumper incorporating the VXR honeycomb mesh and a body coloured 'V'' grille which is unique to Vauxhall's flagship performance models. At the rear, a subtle rear spoiler and a pair of trapezoidal tailpipes hint at the performance. The Vectra VXR will make its debut at Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Expect an estate version to break cover around springtime 2006.
