Fan Control Module Issue?

Anyone had a problem with their fan coming on when they turn off their CX-9? This is happening to my wife. It either turns on or stays on for about 30 seconds or so after engine shut-down.

I had a similar problem back in my old 6S, and it turned out to be a recall item for the fan control module. The dealers service shop says they haven't heard of anything like that with the CX-9...anyone?

BTW it's a 2007 with the 3.5L.

Outside temp has varied. Anywhere from 40s to 70s. And the fan is the one that blows air through the heating/cooling vents into the cabin.

If you're talking about the internal heating and AC fan in the rear, then yes I've read a few posts about people having that issue. I don't remember the solution but if you search it shouldn't be too hard to find.

The little socket that holds the vent cover on over the peg...the one on which the vent rotates.

Unknown how it happened. We have four kids, so that's a possibility, but we simply saw one day that it was down INSIDE the console. And apparently that requires a whole new console.

If you ever take apart something and break one of those plastic tabs or pins, get some Duco Cement. Put a dab on the broken area and put it back together they way it broke off. Then add a small bead around the broken area and let it sit for 24 hours. It will be as strong as it was before. Just make sure the tab or pin is aligned properly.

Duco Cement comes in a green tube with a yellow label. I used it when I broke 2 tabs off of my outside mirror and it worked perfectly. As strong as original.

OK, I'll try that. With four kids, things are getting broken all the time. Thanks for the tip!

Talked with the dealer yesterday, and they say they have to replace a relay. Part should come in today, so we'll see if it fixes the problem.

Until then, my wife is driving a loaner base-model 3i. :(

Now...we have to get them to address the brake squeal on back-ups....

The problem sounded a bit weird, but we are getting that exact same problem now. Ours is a 2008 build CX-9 Luxury with the 3.7L V6 AWD.

When you turn off the engine, the fans stay on for up to 5 minutes. it shuts down again when you turn the engine back on. when you turn it off again, the fans come back on.

Stealth, how did the repair go? did it fix the issue?

Was this a TSB?

Just happened to my wife today. We have a 2008 GT. Not looking to pay for this.

Still angry at the speck of rust coming through on the exhaust tip already
