and yes for all you people out there that are "Mr. correction" yes i know it is not a real short shifter and yes i know it does not perform like the real ones .. so you dont have to anounce its already been covered

how did you replace the steering wheel and i thought that was illegal. i was going to do that but i did not want to mess with the airbags

steering wheel

it was easy in some ways and hard in others .... since Grant Gt and all other steering wheel companies will not specifically make a wheel for our cars with airbags all I did is go to a junkyard and get a junk mazda steering wheel that which had the same size spline as my MP5 did (1995-current) i broght it to a machine shop and had them cut the hub out of it and i had my buddy weld it to the back of the steering wheel .. but the removal was quite easy .. there is a bolt/screw on either side behind the center lower post of the factory wheel that are covered by two rubber gromments and pop those off and unscrew the two bolts then the entire horn assembly will come out (becareful that is obviously where the air bag is) and there are some other bolts behind that portion once it is removed .. now some say it was totaly unsafe for me to unplug the airbar while the battery was still hooked up but that is for you to decide and the main bolt gets removed and blamo you can wiggle the wheel off and place on the new one then use the same center/main bolt to secure the new wheel in place and before you tighten everything down be sure to see if the wheel is alligned properly and so after alltaht is done then your good to go ...

my friend did switched out his steering wheel too...but it was slightly easier with the integra type r...but still illegal he got ticketed for it...

blow torch and some vice grips
Heat up the extension. It's obvious what it is. After getting it all hot and bothered attache vice grips and twist. Be extra careful not to twist the shifter at the base. The bally thigy. sCRAPE OF THE rubber stuff under the extension. Attach knob w/ setting screws and enjoy a miata looking shifter. You will lose the threads for the stock shifter. :D
