2002 MP5
So i have a 2002 Protege5 with the factory alarm. The alarm is crazy sensitive and i cant set it without it going off. Ive done searches on the forum to find out how to turn it down, but i cant seem to find the switch. I know its under the coin thing, its black with a white switch. Anybody have pictures where it is? Ive looked so many times but i cant find it! Any help would be appreciated!

get ur head under the dash, hit something, you should see a red LED go on (detecting a hit)- the dial is SMALL and on that box with (the box with the red LED)

Yeah, it's a little white dial. If I remember correctly, turning it CCW reduces the sensitivity.

okay so i took these two pictures .. the first one is right side up and the second one is upside down. can anyone point out where its supposed to be!? i cant find the damn thing!! or maybe someone take a picture of where theres is!? thanks

open the door of your car....put the drivers seat as far back as it will go....NOW lay in the floor of your car facing up. have a small flashlight with you....now, the little box will be above you and to the right. its fairly easy to see....the knob on the side of the box is not always white....it just depends on when the thing was made, some are white knobs, others gray, and some were even red...but none the less the box only has ONE little knob sticking out of the side of it. Turn the knob one direction and get out and set your alarm and see if it made it more or less sensitive.....that will tell you which direction you need to go...and you can TUNE your alarms sensitivity.

Also note that if you ever disconnect your battery, the alarm automatically arms itself as soon as you reconnect your battery (at least mine does).

Good gawd okay so i took Sir Nuke's advice and went to look for about 15 minutes .. the only box i was able to find was a big one that said "Mazda Vehicle Security Alarm" on it .. but i can't move the box around too much b/c its ziptied to a bunch of other wires .. am i getting close !?

THANK YOU! I got a used Pro5 a month ago and it is pretty much my dream car but the ridiculous sensitivity of the security system was making me hate its guts. Because of your post I resolved the problem and can go back to loving, not hating, my car!

Hey did you ever resolve this? Coming out of the big brain for the alarm (the box you found) the 2nd smallest plug (the smallest goes to the LED alarm indicator) goes to the shock sensor. Follow the wires or if you really want just unplug the shock sensor. The only problem then is that the reason the P5 alarm has the shock sensor and the sedan doesn't is that it's the only way it knows if the hatch gets opened or closed.

I found this thread while looking for threads about "alarm sensitivity". I'm wondering where is the best place to locate the shock sensor because mine goes off too easily.

Thanks Dexter (or SuperMario or whatever you are now) for the clue, I'm going to go try attaching it to the steering column. The factory install manual for the alarm system said to ziptie it to the largest bunch of wires you could find under there.

Lol yea the issue was resolved I really couldnt find it and I took it to the dealer and they pointed it out to me where it was.

Does anyone have a link to the manual for the Mazda Vehicle Security System. PDF or otherwise? Can't find anything after some searching. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Hmm I don't know where to find that but what specific questions do you have? I installed my factory alarm myself so I might know.
