F#@%ing Finally! 2010 Mazdaspeed3

after waiting a few weeks for the insurance to get my money, i finally brought home the new MS3 tonight. I paid 500 under MSRP, not bad, not good but it had the tech package that I wanted.

im really impressed by the torque this car produces. I'm coming from an S2000 and the late model Civic Si and it's night and day. to have all the power so early is completely different, i don't have to work as hard to get the car moving - not sure that i like that yet. its still growing on me.

i really like the interior appointments, the combination of leather and cloth is nicely done. i am kinda disappointed in the button placement and some of the cheapness of some (not all) of the buttons. the navi and stereo buttons on the steering wheel aren't ergonomically placed - at least how i'm used to things. the volume, audio control, and preset buttons look cheap to me. however, the air conditioning dials and tune/play dial are top notch. And i'm annoyed why the window buttons are not illuminated, but have the blue ambiance light instead shining on them.

the styling is still growing on me too - i had to get black because i know the smiley front end is hideous lol. i've seen some of the M'z custom lip kits for the car and they look sweet - definitely going to get those.

one thing i noticed is that my brakes squeak - not all the time, but i've heard it twice already, and its my first night! i'm hoping this car is not going to be a maintenance beotch - one of my concerns before buying the car.

finally, i'm hoping to do a couple of mods: cai/sri, bov, coilovers, HIDs, LED tail light swap, M'z Custom lip kit, wide/crazy offset WORK rims, window visors, tint, short shifter, shift knob, all weather mats, trunk tray, cargo net....etc

i wanted white but all the damn canadians had to get them all

like i mentioned, it masks the smiley face

I went from an Acura RSX Type S and it took me awhile to get used to when to shift. I always wanted to take it to redline, but now it's second nature to shift at 5,500-5,800.

I hear the gears are taller in the '10, can you get to 60 in 2nd now?

At 6500rpms in the new one you can get to 63mph.

Congrats on the new Purchase!

Still need to shift to 3rd for a fast time, no ones home at 5700 and above just like the current model. The gears are barely taller I've driven it.

Rofl - Gratz - I went from an S2000 to the MS3 as well. I bounced off the rev limiter so many times as I was simply used to going to 9k. Took some getting use to for sure.

theres no correct break in period. Some think new cars nowaday dont need break in but to be in the safe side, break in is good. But i saw a website and a dude explained a car during the break in period should drive hard! so... dunno....

i think the owner's manuel says 600 miles? but i broke mine at 1000 miles.

(rei) welcome!

I'm a "give me what you got" oil change kind of guy (at the mazda dealer, which I'm sure is crap stuff, but think it's better then doing it myself)

so i guess mods are gonna have their work cut out for them doing all the moving around of threads that are gen2 models posting in gen1 forums

up to 300 miles-clutch break in- baby it, shift early and dont slip the clutch that much
300-400- oil control break in-take it up without too much boost to 4000 and let it decelerate in gear. This properly seats the lower piston ring/oil control ring
400-600- power break in- gradually work your way up to peak power, bringing in boost as you go, continue to decelerate in gear to seat the rings
600-1000- allow engine to warm up to operating temp (idiot gauge at middle for 5 minutes minimum- 155*F is when idiot gauge is centered- T stat doesn't open until 190*) and boost it.

1000 miles, change the oil, use a full synthetic with high zinc content/detergent concentration. These are usually diesel oils (ROTELLA T 5w40 is what you should use).
