Extended Wheel Studs - Protege

Hey everybody,

I've done some digging around the site but I've only found contradicting information regarding the size of stud that will fit the Protege.

For example, some have said that the Honda studs will fit, while others have said they are too narrow.

The most convincing argument I've found so far is that the Miata studs will fit the Protege. The only thing is that you have to swap the front and rear studs when using them on the Protege (i.e miata front on protege rear).

I know the thread size is M12x1.5 but it's the knurl diameter that is giving me a headache.

From what I've been able to gather, the knurl diameters for the Protege are:
Front: 0.588"
Rear: 0.515"

Whereas the Miata knurl diameters are:
Front: 0.507"
Rear: 0.579"

If anyone running extended studs can please chime-in and help me out, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

I'm moving up to 225/45 15 NT01s for auto-x and I need these longer studs to go with my spacers.

PLEASE HELP!
Thanks!

Thanks!
I'm still confused though - that lists 1 knurl diameter size and it doesn't match either one listed above.

Hmm I guess if guys are running them they work :P

you have the 4-wheel disc brakes, right? then those are the correct studs. will be about an inch longer than stock, and should be plenty long for whatever you need them for.

I have front discs and rear drums unfortunately :(
My 5-bolt 4 disc swap is sitting in my garage until the winter.

The the ARP p/n for the miata studs are ARP 100-7719 (Miata Front / Protege Rear) and ARP 100-7720 (Miata Rear / Protege Front)

if you can knock one of the studs out and measure it, you should be able to cross reference the ARP catalog to find ones that will fit. i would think the studs are the same for all trim levels.

I may try to pick up a new stud from the dealer so that I don't have to worry about breaking one during data gathering :P.
I have a race Saturday and don't want to risk it ;)

interesting...

the 2-disc models use the same stud in the rear as the 4-dics models use in the front. (at least according to the factory parts manual) based on that tid-bit of information, i think you would be fine getting those studs listed above.

according to the mazda parts manual:
rear studs
2-disc - B455-33-062
4-disc - J00Y-33-062

front studs
2-disc - B01Y-33-062
4-disc - B455-33-062

That assumes that the rear hubs on the 2 disc and 4 disc are the same does it not?

I'm not sure I follow the logic.

maybe i'm not explaining my reasoning well enough...

the ARP studs i linked to have been used on all four corners of the 4-disc cars. i would assume that the only differnce might be the stock stud length, or maby the stock knurl length - the thread pitch and diameter are obviously the same. if the ARP studs work on all four corners of the 4-disc cars, i would be 98% confident that they would work on all four corners of the 2-disc cars. plus, if you are switching to 4-disc setup int he future, you could just swap them over to the new hubs.

any local speed shops that specilize in camaro parts? they might have some.

It seems they are all on-order.
Novustech.ca has offered to produce OEM spec parts for 60$ a pair (front rear) so I may take them up on that option.

I got everything sorted out.

$205 (CND) for 4 10mm spacers, 2 sets (F/R) of extended bolts (60mm) with OEM knurl diameters, and 16 wheel nuts for the extended studs.
Big ups to Novustech.ca - they're located in Cambridge Ontario.

I got free shipping for putting a decal on my car :) (but you didn't hear that from me ;) )

sounds like a really good deal! what wheels are you running?

I'm running 225/45 15 Nitto NT01 tires on some 15x7 rims. I honestly don't know what kind of rims they are. I bought them off another local member for 50$ when we dismantled his car and sent it to the wrecker. He didn't remember what they were either. I think they're german though. lol

The price was right and they were straight ;)

Ugh the saga still continues with this.

Recap: I was sent 12x1.5 studs with 12x1.25 nuts. I didn't notice and ended up cross-threading all the front studs *sigh

News: I have been fighting for replacements for almost a month. Novustech has said that he can't find them through his supplier anymore. I doubt that I got the last pair in existence.
I'm just debating getting my money back and grabbing some Ichiba or ARP studs. FML.
