Expected Gains from Circuit Sports SMIC upgrade

I was thinking about just breaking down and paying the rediculous $625 for the CS SMIC upgrade. I really don't have the time or the mechanical competency to do a FMIC install myself, all my experienced friends are not the most reliable stoners I know, and I like the simplicity of being able to just drop this in if the gains are decent. I have looked around and found no reviews or testamonials about this or any CS product. Anyone have an opinion on this intercooler, other than the obvious fact that it is overpriced? http://www.jspec.com/ciricprot.html

Other than the fact that it is majorly over priced it is my only solution now as well ... i ordered hard pipes for the car and want something that replaces the stock SMIC with the same size unit so the hardpipes fit right up. I dont think you are going to see much of a gain out of the unit other than it is much larger and will not suffer heatsoak as quickly. It will also allow for running at higher boost levels effectively. I would say 1- 4 HP max running stock boost.

I would buy one if they were priced correctly.. about 400 - 450. They are crazy asking 630 + shipping.

Yup $400 would be an excellent price. $450 is reasonable, $500 is the max I will spend on an SMIC.

That company must be smokin the crack ... they are just priced like that because they were featured with the MSP in the April 2004 Import Racer magazine. Even under all their dyno tests the SMIC was only an addon for the added boost and not really a nescessity. I wish a FMIC would work with my hardpipes ... they are just cool looking.

Ohh yeah .... another thing ... the IC looks like it was welded by a 5 year old with a my first welder kit.

I was thinking about calling CS and asking when the price was going to drop.

-Celridge-...LOL...I thought the welds looked kinda funny too!!

I beleive the gain from the SMIC kit was 8 whp and 14 lbs of torque. Thats not a lot for the money, in my opinion. I would not buy one or an FMIC at the current pricing levels.

I'll check in the magazine when I get home.

i'd still go with front mount cause you gonna spend 400 for hardpipes and 625 for SMIC....now 900 for hiboost front mount kit and another 200 or so to install it. its pretty much the same money, but better upgrade. and whats wrong with stoners? :D me and Dr.Sound were able to do the install in 6 hours. (never done it b4)

I love to see that dyno sheet ... haha

Just buy a front mount and be done with it. They aren't hard to install. I took me 12 hours to install my fmic and downpipe by myself. If I would have had someone to hold a few parts it would have went faster. And this was my first time ever doing anything like that. IMO, i'd just buy the hiboost fmic and put it on.

I dont really want the FMIC ... i love the way it looks ... but i want to be the sleeper.

Yes ... that was 8WHP after increased boost levels ... not at stock. I would give it about 5 WHP at stock boost.

Yeah Jersey's right before the boost and after the exhaust if that makes any difference ,after each mod they dynoed the car

dude, u dont know.
dont say it so surely if u havent looked upclose.

i held this SMIC in my hands, very nice work.
very efficient core.

it will be worth the money if it came with hardpipes.

Well its up to you, but I still think a smic will get heatsoaked a lot faster than a fmic. Besides when I have the grill peice in my car you can hardly tell it has a fmic.

You may want to wait, I believe TurboHoses.com is currently developing a stock replacement SMIC. From the work they did on my hardpipes, I'm expecting there SMIC to be just as good...
