Exhaust

^^^You need to be more in general. Civic sound! There are all types of civic sounds! Maganaflow would be the best!

Draxas, Magnaflow, Borla, & Vibrant Performance.....Draxas & Vibrant have the largest diameter piping and both offer a High-Flow cat option

Magnaflow

Hi,
I just put a magna flow universal muffler (5X7 oval) on my 3. I got the muffler online for $58.00 shipped, and took it to the Midas dealer near my house. They cut off the old muffler & resonator and replaced it with the Magnaflow. (I did it this way because if you listen to a cat back system they are LOUD!

There is a diffrence in throttle responce, and it sounds great!

I'ts in between stock & cat back.......I LOVE IT & it only cost me $70.00 for installation..............TOTAL COST $128.00 for the whole thing!

Not True!

Fobby monkey?

You are completely WRONG!

The Magnaflow 5X7 universal muffler flows 120 times the air of the stock muffler...........Get a clue! or do some math........You decide

Thats Magna flows #'s..........real life it's still 50 times more air.

No I'm not kidding

What makes you an expert?

Do you really think the stock muffler is free flowing?

Have you ever seen a cut awat of a stock muffler?
(they have chambers and baffles so the exhaust doesn't flow right out.)

They are all very restrictive

A Magnaflo, Borla, Flowmaster........is free flowing (you can see right through to the other side)

And yes you will get a small performance mod by taking out the resonator and factory muffler. (maybe 2-3 hp / 3-5 fpt)

I worked for Chrysler Corp. & G.M. for over 6 years in their Corp. offices. And spoke w/engineers, R & D Technicians all the time. One of my best friends has 2 standing records a Bonniville. I have worked on his cars as well as built a custom Harleys. I was one of the first people outside Dodge R & D to test drive the first mule Twin Turbo Stelth......& one of the first people to get to ride along in a mule Viper.

There seem to be alot of self proclaimed KNOW IT ALL'S on this site. Giving your opinion and giving correct advice are two diffrent things.

Not trying to be a jerk but... you've built custom Harleys and record winning Bonnivills,... and you needed Midas to put your muffler on?

(uhm)

Ummm... Flowmaster mufflers are not straight-through designs.

Well, you definitely seem to know a lot of knowledgable people. Doesn't mean you , yourself have that knowledge.

Something about the pot and the kettle springs to mind...

The 120 times more flow is not possible, make sure you hook me up with whatever you all are smoking, if you believe that one....

Per the manufacturer, the stock exhaust is between 97 and 98% efficient, so all the air goes in, about 98% or more (depending on rpm comes right through). A straight pipe is 100% efficient.

There is a reason the average after market only makes 5hp or so over stock. Add a header you get maybe 10-12 total. Basic laws of physics.

If you get 120x the flow, you have found a new source of free energy..hey is that cold fusion you're talking about??

the exhaust's ability to efficiently transport air is a bit of a moot point.

I think the question is more along the lines of how fast does the exhaust (air) leave?, I would hope that all the exhaust that goes in comes out the other side (otherwise it wouldn't be doing it's job).
Also, what kind of back pressure does the stock exhaust produce?

Replacing the stock exhaust canister with a borla/magnaflow/whatever should give a gain merely because it is replacing a restrictive part of the exhaust system something which slows down exhaust velocity and creates backpressure.

of course, when used in conjunction with larger diameter piping and high flow cats the gains will be greater, but to say that simply replacing the exhaust canister won't do anything but increase sound is just wrong.

doesn't matter how free your muffler is flowing, what you are pushing out is what you are pushing in. if your inlet is still the same without letting more more air, you have no more air to push through your muffler, and if your muffler is pushing more air out, but your outlet is still the same old 1 and 3/4 inch, you are still not pushing anything out. Bottleneck.
