Exhaust question

Okay, so it might have been asked already, but much like all the other threads throughout the forums, there are an ungodly amount of threads in here.

My question is this:

Is a 3 inch dual exhaust too large in diameter? I mean, would it cause too little back pressure for the engine?

I'm looking to - maybe - buy two Megan CF Mufflers and do a custom 3 inch cat-back exhaust and then get a 3 inch downpipe/mid-pipe combo.

So, now I open the discussion to the peanut gallery.

i think you mean would it not have enough back pressure? im not too knowledgeable on turbo cars, but i know factory turbo cars need some backpressure due to factory ecu settings. im planning on gettin a magnaflow muffler and do a single custom on mine

No, it won't create too much back pressure, it'll reduce it. The lower the back pressure, the more easily the turbo spools.

The car does not have true dual exhaust.. It simply has 2 mufflers in the back with 1 single pipe going from the downpipe that splits off to two mufflers in the back.. A true dual exhaust is when there are 2 pipes from the headers all the way back..

You know what I meant. It has 2 exhaust tips that people can see (kinda).

Okay true, but there is no 4 banger out there that has 2 pipes from the headers on back. Either way, my question was answered and thank you for you two's input. I will be going with the custom exhaust due to cost issues.

didn't mean to be a jerk about it (sorry if it came off that way).. Just wanted to clarify something that seemed to be a minor detail.

damit, i should really read what section im posting in lol

didnt realize this was a MS6 section, so 3 in dual sounds good, but u might want to check if the exhausts are going to fit in that opening or youll have to cut it

well hopefully they fit good. Otherwise they will have to shorten the length of the piping. No biggie I figure.

I'm running a custom 3" exhuast. I have a resonator where the 2nd cat is and 3 inch pipe all the way back and split off into 2 pipes. looks and sounds real nice.

This is the best one i got i believe. I'm in Korea so I can take any more right now. Sorry. You can see in the second one the y piping. Sounds real nice. Just a magnaflow resonator...

I just came back from getting some custom work done. I got 3" pipes with a magnaflow resonator then it is 2.5" after the Y with no mufflers. Car is not crazy loud, but you can definitely notice it when you get on it. Rest of exhaust is factory.. Will probably do a test pipe next
