If I take off my exhaust manifold do I have to replace the gasket? I have 13,500 miles on the clock. I wanna polish that sucker for those of you who care to know.

Later:)

So your gonna ditch that ****** big metal piece that covers it? I was thihnking about doing this too, but is it safe?

dude...you seriously need to stop with your holier than thou posts..its really getting obnoxious...ok, you have an awesome car and obviously more knowledge than a bunch of people on this board, but can you please just show that in a respectful manner like Terry or CHDesign for example? It really doesn't help you runnin around makin everyone feel like complete retards...

I dont want to start a flame war here, but just please try to be respectful of us..or just get the hell out

::edit::I cant spell....

I'm sorry, I just thought it was funny. I mean you can look at a piece of iron and see that it can't be polished right? Iron is a very crude metal and very unpure metal. It rusts like crazy. The reason it is used for exhaust parts is because it has HUGE expansion properties. This is also why it can't be welded normaly like steel. When you apply high heat to a small area like a welder, that area heats and greatly expands. The areas around it stay the same size and this causes cracks. Anyway, enough about that.

Sorry, I'll try not to be so blunt next time, unless the situation requires it.:D

Why...:'(

You ruined my life long dream of a polishing an exhaust manifold.

jk

But i wanna do something to it. It looks like total crap.

maybe keep the heat sheild and paint it black w/ high temp paint. I dont think ive seen anyone do that. Might be worth a shot if you hate it so. :)

That heat shield gets pretty hot. I don't think any store bought paint will stay on without flaking off. You could always polish the cover, that's easy to do. You can get headders for less than $400 shipped. Why not just get those?

A guy I know..w/ a protege 5 tried to paint that same piece..he used high temp paint...and it just wound up chipping/peeling off..

I hope to go turbo someday so a header is a waste of money.
I thought about painting the heat shield, but, it's to much (as far as "look at me" type styling) I polished the heat shield a little bit a while back but by the end of the next day it was all dirty again.

Thanks for the help
