I dont even own a speed3 yet and i will make all of you speed3ers very very happy!
CUT OUT THE PLASTIC MESH IN THE TMIC GUARD!!!! you will still have your precious rubber seal and now have probably 20% MORE IC SURFACE!!! your thanks can be sent to me by replying to this email and saying nice things about my winning personality!!! j/k

someone put this in to the how to section with pictures and lets all rejoice in improved factory ic efficiency.(cabpatch)

lol at matt...

I think maybe with a name like Crystalmeth...you might be giving people the initiative to not listen to you, thinking "speedfreak on the internet, look at him typing...wow it doesn't even make sense!"

However, I think it is a good idea to consider removing the plastic screen. One thing to keep in mind is that air still flows around this screen, and right onto the IC, so it is probably an issue of a tiny increase in airflow doing what you suggest. Still, 1-5% is better then 0%.

Plastic mesh doesn't make contact with the core so removing it wouldn't make any difference with surface area or cooling.

that is to stop ur FAT hands from crushing the inter cooler when u work on the car...or anything that may decide to get sucked in through the air ducts.

If you see the dust imprints on the core, you will notice the entire core is covered with it, not just where the mesh is open. So yea, as with what Matt said...

u are

of course the plastic mesh blocks incoming air. just think about it. place that mesh at any point between the grille and the ic and IT BLOCKS AIR. if you took all the mesh and made it into on solid peice of plastic (just as thin), representing the amount of coverage on the ic, you will have atleast %15 of the surface covered. things getting sucked in there? yea right, subies dont worry about this and they have the air inlet on top of the ic. my fat hands crushing the ic, i am skinny. ask yourself... 15% of the ic blocked or not? is the thread gay now? nope!

put a screen in the window, compare it to no screen. what has more wind passing thru? does it matter if you are next to the window or 10 feet away? no.
your ic may not have mesh contacting ic, does not matter, air is blocked and this analagy is not gay.

It will help the flow a bit.The fin things deflect the air a bit instead of letting it just flow straight thru.It dont matter if its touching the ic or not,If it was touching it would be worse. If you have a fan at home go turn it on high and feel the air flow in front of it,Now take the cover off the front of the fan and feel the air flow again. You will see that the air flows better because its not being deflected. Why be so hard on this guy when he has a point.I would thank him but I already did it weeks ago.

CrystalMeth dont pay attention to some of these JOs.Not all of us mazda people are like them.It makes sence to people that have common sence.

Ok.. Lets talk some common sense. Why would Mazda put a plastic cover that BLOCKS 15% OF THE IC's AIR FLOW. Common guys, if you say it block 1-3 % then that would sound more reasonable, not 15%. And another thing, air is fluid, it will find it's way to the ic, meaning that the cover seals and force air into the ic, it won't go anywhere but through the ic.

Becaue its used to help guard the IC so the fines dont get all messed up and they dont care if they block the air flow that little....Common sence tells me that.
