I'm in the process of writing a post, part of which involves mentioning a vendor – not to advertise or support the vendor, but to give context for something I'm doing. Is this okay, or should I leave the vendor's name out? Wanted to make sure I don't run afoul of forum rules/guidelines. Thanks!

Mentioning a non-sponsoring Vendor is fine as long as the poster is not affiliated (with said Vendor) in any way, shape or form. Also, as long as the mention is not in any way, shape or form advertising and or marketing.
People mention non-sponsoring Vendors all the time, whether it's about maintenance, a repair, upgrades etc...Even if there is a sale that fellow Members and Owners might be interested in...It's all fine as long as there is no affiliation / intention to advertise / conducting business etc.
