I'm new here yes.... but am I alone???

I'm sick to death of reading about all these "bozos" slammin on the Protege about how slow it is....

Did you all grow up driving BMW M5's or something??? If you are that spoiled, then go get another one and get lost....

I personally like to enjoy my car for all that it is worth... Many times a car with less power but has an engine which is willing to rev is much more entertaining to drive than a car with exessive gobs of power one can never really use....

Add in an excellent chassis, suspension and brakes and you have a very entertaining car to drive...

If numbers at the track is all that is of importance, then those who gripe should either put up the bucks to satisfy their needs or shut up...

Like I have said before, you get what you pay for.. If you can't afford to get a turbo, or engine mods, or an Evo, or a Viper, then shut up....

A P5 is a P5... Complaining about it won't make it go faster now will it? It is not a BMW M5, it is a Mazda P5...... Duh...


There are some people here who really enjoy the P5's they own, and only want to talk about them a bit and improve them a little to personalize them enough to make them feel proud of their little car... But those who seem to find joy in bashing these cars and their proud owners need to look elsewhere for that kind of entertainment.... Like WWF wrestling or something...

I looked to this forum to expand my knowledge of my new car, not to hear those who will be-little it.... If you hate it so much, get rid of it.....

Am I the only one here who really likes this car?? If so, them maybe I have found the wrong forum??? Is there another Protege5 forum??

P5s are awesome. i love the hatchback's long and flowing look. i was doing a cell shade on azeli's dark p5, but pshop f'd up and i lost it...it was so sexy, too. but i've never heard of p5 owners complaining about their car. it's mostly the MSP owners...how odd

I think we all got into it knowing what we were getting. Sure the car handles well, but let's face it, power isn't their strong point. Even MSP's are a bit on the weak side compared to what they're up against.

I came out of a hopped up 91 civicsi, and in some ways, (especially when talking of my speeding tales) I kind of miss the lil' go-kart. more power, AND waay less weight. However, I'm mostly beyond that point in my life now, I've got other less-expensive ways to get my kicks. slowtege' isn't really a bash, it's a sign of humbleness. We're not gonna go out on the street and spank all the ricers in their si's and tyre-r's and such. But we've stll got the cars for some reason, right? Don't take it as a negative. We wouldn't all be here if we hated our cars, would we?

Yes the P5 is underpowered, but the engine loves to be revved--which is part of the reason why it's so fun to drive. Driving it is a 100X better if you're not sissy footing the gas pedal .

Most of the time we keep it real and know that we don't have speed machines. Most of us here realize that, that's why the protege community comes off as very anti "rice". We laugh at ricer fly-bys because we know that these F&F wannabe cars out there have a warped reality of what their cars really can do.
If you check out the types of posts around you'll see a trend from the majority. Eg:
-someone posts a "kill" on the street
-many will be skeptical
-most will say "take it to the track"
-all will say "it's probable, but if you want to beat them just take some twisties because that's our strong point"
-no one will say "yeah, that's right, our cars beat everything"

We know why we bought the car, we like keeping things real.

If we weren't into our cars we wouldn't be here. Are we bashing it? No, it's just something we wished we could improve on.
In the end we all know that we decided not to buy a car with more HP just for the fact that our proteges are tons more fun to drive.

that being said, I like my P5 more than my MSP...once I got the MSP sound system in my p5 I was happy. It could use more power, but thats what wagner and perfworks are for.

my p5 with mp3 ecu actually seems to rev faster...it also idles lower and pulls harder....This goes back to what I've always said...mazda ECU suck balls. Can't wait for the Perfworks AEM.

The P5 is an econobox and having a 2.0L engine with 130hp is more than many econoboxes like the Civic, Corolla, Sentra, etc. Why don't people complain the Civic is slow also?(confused)

Because civics were making 127 hp with 1.6 liters and 1 cam! The B16's, a 1.6 was making 160hp. And the D and B series motors rev alot faster.

It's kind of funny seeing that no matter what forum you are on
there is always a thread about how fast your car is or how fast it is not.
It's the same here and on the Corvette forum. All I can say is that you should all enjoy the car that you have. Every car has it's own personality, it's strong points and it's weak points. But one thing I have learned is that no matter what you have, from a Viper to a Terraplane Hudson, there is always somebody faster, ALWAYS.

if 0-60 is the whole car to you then you shouldnt be driving a p5 in the first place....

Do you love your child less because they're "slow". I loved the 5s from the first time I saw one. To me it has the perfect combination, Style, value, reliability, a blast to drive and yes, I believe a bit of power. It's not a race car, but as has been said a million times, if you wanted a race car you should have bought one. You can have all the civics or corollas you want. I'll never put down the 5.
