Engine's problem

I do not know does any other guy get this kind of problem too.
I was dirving my p5 to work this morning. I stopped at a intersection because red singal. When the green singal coming I release the brake and push the accelerograph to go but the car can not move forword and move backword - because I was at a uphill - what's the hell ! (stooges) .
Then I found the check oil light is on and engine light is on too(I just change the oil in the dealer last month and only dirve 200k from then). SO I had to shutdown the car and start it again everything was back to normal.

This is the 2nd time already. WHen the 1st tiem happened I phone the dealers and send the car back. They said they connec the car to the computer and could not find any problem. They also called mazda canada and got the suggestion to replace some chip in the car. They did that then told me problem solved and I do not need to worried about it.

But it happen again today. If there was a car behide me I wll get an accident already! Who is going to pay that?

So what can I do ? Phone dealer again or maybe prepare a camera in the catr so when it happen again just take photos about dashboard. Then I can use these photo as a proof to sue mazda?

Tks for any suggestion.

Do you have manual, auto or tiptronic? My old P5 had tiptronic, and the gear range selector went bad twice.

The car would went into safety mode (3rd gear only), which would make it difficult to get rolling uphill. I took it to the dealer several times before they pinpointed the problem.

I got a automatic one(with that's kind of sport mode)

Did it just drift backwards a little or actually propel backwards?
They do drift a little bit, even with my sportmatic, but nothing extreme.

And yes the safety mode is a PAIN, had it go into safety mode once when my radio fuse blew.

That's what I had. Are you in sport mode when it happens? And does the "3" light up?
No. I just in the "D" mode. I never use sport mode except when I stucked in snow.

It just move back because the engine is stopped and I am at a uphill and the btake is released.

Already did it last time and will do it again next week.
But I do not think they can slove the problem. They will bulshit me again and I just wait for the next time it happens.
I am kind of disappoint about this mazda now. It is a 2003 and just 24000km on it. unacceptable!
Tks anyway.

Never heard of this problem though, which will make it hard to find and fix unfortunely. One of the problems with getting cars service they often have to try and recreate the problem. Keeps us posted though, be interesting to see if they can actually pin point the issue.

ALready got the car back from the dealers. They gave me same s*** like last time. THey check the car but no problem. They phoned mazda but now response.

That stinks, but has it done it at all since then? Or can you think of anything else you were doing before it happen? Hard accel? turns? Hard stopping? Or if the steepness of the hills were the same? Something to maybe give them to help cause it again.

Time to move up the chain of command if you don't feel safe in the car. Start w/the GM at the dealer, the owner, and on up to MazdaUSA.

Hell, if your P5 has tiptronic it must still be under warranty. I would insist on a loaner until they pinpoint the problem.

hmm. I think I did not before that. Actuallt I rarely make the engine runing more than 4000rpm.maybe this is the problem. I am too nice to this car.

I've had the same problem twice. Though I was on flat roads at a stop sign. I let off the brake, and while I was coasting forward, the engine just shuts off and I see a CEL. Throw the tiptronic from D to P, turn off key, then re-start the engine. It's fine. Happened to me twice and the car is currently 1 and 1/4 year old.

Both times it happened to me in the morning while I was on the way to teach. I want to say the engine was on for a total of 5-10 minutes. Does this happen to you when the engine is on for short periods of time, or is this happening to you after it's been on for like 30 min?

I also posted on this board and people have replied stating that it's the EGR valve, and that supposedly 1 in 10 proteges have this problem. I doubt that if no one else, especially a trustworthy mazda dealer (not bein sarcastic - I love my dealer) didn't even know about it. But try asking them anyways and then let me know what they say!

This is scary. Call up a couple mazda dealers tomorrow and see what they have to say. I'll do the same and we can post our results on here. Let's see what we can dig up!

BTW I also noticed that the engine was at low rpm's idling. I was told by service people that it'll idle around 800 rpm's. And I know when I let off the brake, the problem happened. So I was always thinking it was because the idle was too low and the sudden load of the whole car on the tranny was too much for the engine to handle at such low RPM's. Whatever it is, though, I want this thing fixed and asap!

Keep update me please.
Last time the dealer said they phone mazda and change some chip in my car.
They said the mazda told them they should do that.
But this time the deal just said they phone mazda and mazda said never heard of this problem and the mazda is doing they researching now.
So I still did not get any usful result yet.
my idel speed is pretty low. I think it is only 500 but I will make sure of that tomorrow.
