i think we need to bum rush mazdaspeed and get those new motors from the mazdaspeed 3's in our proteges. they are smart people im sure they can figure out a way to get it in there. any takers? just and an idea.

anything is possible with the right mix of money, willpower, time, dedication and insanity

being serious, there is alot to account for here. the engine is reverse of our own (intake manifold in front VS in rear, etc) it would require unique mounting, probably would have to port over the wiring harness, convert it to standard throttle vs electronic throttle, have custom axles made to accomodate the new transmission, so on and so forth.

weirder things have occured. there are proteges with v6s and rotaries running around.

While *technically*, anything is possible, in all practicality, this is impossible.

no,just not practicle.

it's one expensive engine to get your hands on,then you still have to deal with the nightmare of actually doing it.

you better have DEEP pockets.

or buy a set of rods and beat up ms3s all day. if you were going to waste time and money on any motor going into the msp other then a fs series it would have to be a mazda FE DOHC (or FE3 for short) Aside from a few crazy engineered bp installs, it is the only mazda 4 cylinder motor I know of capable of hitting 400HP on the stock motor. Best part is they used it in KIA cars so you can find parts easy. I found a genuine FE DOHC motor for $650, the KIA RWD version was like $700. There are differences between them obviosly but mostly the same randy stocker does a great write up on the motor and even made his into a 2.3l stroker using the 1st gen mx6/probe 2.2l crank and some custum pistons and rods he got for the cheap since they are the same as other common vehicles. id look inot that, 400HP on the cheap, just needs custom everything and a stand alone ems. I think he was looking for 230WHP non intercooled at like 6psi with the stroker motor, this is barely even working the motor so you can beat on it all day long.

Got any more info on the FE3?? What vehicles did it come in in the US? I love the junkyards would love to find one there... got my spare FS (from an 02 protege) for under $100...

Kia Sportage's had them. But I'd just go on eBay to get one. I got a JDM high compression FE3 for 550+shipping from an engine supplier on eBay. I still haven't done anything with it but at least it's there for when I get motivated heh.

They swap into 1st gen MX-6's and Probes (non-V6).

While it is the engine used in the Sportages I am not positive on the differences. When I had my MX-6 and was on the MX-6 forums everyone there got the JDM version and just used Sportage parts (water pump, gaskets, etc..), the internals may be different, but again I'm not sure at all.
