Engine sound - Doesn't really purr.

Hey guys. Just a question.

I've had my 2002 Protege5 since mid-July 2002 & am not very happy with the way the engine sounds, especially when it is cold.

To me, the best way to describe the engine sound is that of an older engine rather than the purr that you'd expect from a new car.

Is this normal or do I have a problem? Either way, when I plan to get my oil changed, I'm having them look at it.

Any thoughts?

what kind of sound? clicking, loud banging? does your engine block wobble violently? most mazda engines growl, mine does.

get it checked out to be sure.

It's not like a clicking or a banging. More like a rythmic growl.

the growl is normal. i love that sound....... its like a panther ready to pounce......
