Engine Rebuild Where Do I Get Parts?

I was wondering what year parts will work on my 2003.5 MSP. Mazda isn't covering my car due to the oil drain plug falling out and I'm probably going to rebuild it myself.

What year parts will work and where are some good sources for parts?

Thanks in advance!!

well I would buy a small block from MAM with forged internals. If your going to build you might as well build right.

i second that

if you really want to do the work yourself then make sure you get a friend who is experienced to help you... its not as simple as removing stock pistons and putting in new ones.

if you are going to rebuild then do it right with all new gaskets, bearings, pistons and rods. your block may be junk as well due to cyliner wall scarring ( no oil is a b****) but it may be able to be honed, or bored out. if you have to do this then you have to order some forged pistons (at a bare minimum) and you should also buy forged rods to go with them (might as well do it right)

I personally recomend Oliver rods, CP pistons, and Toga Bearings. for the most part, gaskets are gaskets (excluding head gasket, which is critical)

but if you have no mechanical knowledge, and no experienced friends, then buy a short block from MAM (click in the link in my sig for contact info) because they are near perfection.

sorry to hear you were no more succesful with woodhouse and our regonal rep than I was. PM if you need the labor and stuff done or want anything off my car... Transonic would give ya a good price on any labor, and they allready have one msp there!

I'll have a longblock for sale soon, but yes, get a Mental Addiction Block, you WONT be dissapointed!

I'm open to offers to buying an engine.

Although I'd like to know what year parts work on this car. I work at a parts store and get a big discount, but just need to know what year parts will work on this car, because most books and catalogs don't list Mazda Speed.

short block is with out oil pump, pan, water pump..ect. just rods pistons crank rings and seals. just a basic block to get started. Its the same block, just not all of the engine. hope that helps.

So any Protege parts 2001+ will work, for example if somene was to give me a a base model Protege I could switch the internals into my Speed?

Yes, the motors are the same except for some small things such as the windage tray and the oil return lines for the turbo. Internally they are identical.
