i searched and i just want to recheck again with you guys.....

the problem is that i have a knocking coming from the engine.....
the first time it happened was yesterday night and my oil light came on so i assumed i was low on oil some how..(i changed my oil a month ago i dont know how it burned so fast?); today i changed my oil again with new oil filter and the knocking is still there...

how much would this cost to fix?
or how much would it cost to replace my engine with another with less miles?

have you checked oil levels before draining it? You could just have a nasty leak.

but if it is still knocking, i think the damage is done

Knocking probably means at least one of the bearings is shot from oil starvation. You could do an engine teardown or get a used engine. ProtegeGarage has them for around a grand. Sorry dude, bad news!

thanks for the help but it sucks for me to hear that............how much would it cost to replace my engine? or might as well swap it for a better non p5 engine??

if you're worried about cost on replacing the stock pro5 engine, i wouldn't bother with a swap.

Nothing drops in perfectly. Just swap to another pro5 motor and call it a day

yeah.....true......i was just wondering but i think i was just stick with the p5 engine...... so any body knows how much would it cost???

Protegegarage.com has soem stock blocks, but then it needs shipped and taken to a garage to swap the motor, so, let's say not cheap

ok my car is death!!! again!!! first was my alternator and now my engine!!

well at first the knockings came from the engine when i pressed on the gas..
then it got worst, the knockings would come even when i was on a stop light...
and now my car is death! it wont start anymore =-( ........

any one know where i can get a low mile engine
besides car-parts. or protegegarage??

Call your local wreckers, you'll be looking at about $400 for an engine from most wreckers (in my area anyway). Get it compression tested, and hear it running first if you can.

OK, not to hijack your thread but... durwood, what is that beauty in the trailer in your pic? She is nice. 600RR? R6?

mine just died yesterday !

i'm in the same boat! my 03 pro5 just dropped a rod bearing yesterday 11/21/08. it's got 67k on it and has been completely babied by me from new. now i'm trying to figure out what to do with it. dump it or fix it? where are you located? i'm in raleigh and finding a fix it place here is gonna be a challenge !

let us know what you decided to do.

anybody know a good shop in the raleigh nc area ??

Was the oil level low?

oil level low ? your kidding right ? never lost a drop since new. oil changed religiously since new. and the car has never been thrashed or modded in any way. just put new falkens on it 200 miles ago.

ANYBODY WANT A PERFECT P5 WITH A BAD ENGINE ??

Well, spun rod bearings in the FSDE most often occur becasue of oil starvation, and just changing oil on the intervals doesn't necessarily guarantee a safe level. There are a number of guys on here who find their engines use some oil throughout the oil change interval. Just curious about the origin of the problem.
