Engine noise at startup?

Then count them on someone elses deck then go complain that they have more, should be fun (thumb)

Thanks guys for all the info! I'm gonna call the dealer later to add that I have that problem as well!

cold engine start up should reach to 2k rpm then as it warms up it will lower down. This is open loop to close loop operation. Which is normal. but about the clunking noise that im hearing when i start my engine ( cold start only) is wut i dont know. I've had this ever since i had my p5 brand new. So wut the hell is it? im thinking tranny fluid not going all over the gears since the cars been sitting all nite. wut did the dealer do to fix it?

there is a fix for that. something with the vcts or something like that. i had them fix mine and it rattles no more! just take the tsb in and if your dealer knows what they are doing it will be fixed. now if they could just fix my damn rusty brake calipers or whatever they are called...

thats up to you man. every new car has some bugs to it. your car is drivable, its only an annoyance that mazda came up with a fix for. its not hurting your car, only making a noise that you, I, and tons of other people did not like to hear

this fu*@!ng sucks!!! this car is brand new! and im already taking it to the fu@!#ng dealer!

Chill bro. It atleast is a problem that is well known and easily found by dealers. None will deny it. All cars have this potential. In the future, review TSBs and recalls before buying th ecr and ensure they are up to date. Its a simple valve swap and ECU reprogramming. Nothing major. COnsidering you are under mazdas warrenty they will giove you a rental car for the day too. It may be a bit of a hassle but nothing compared to the BS MSP owners and MP3 owners have been through for over a year now.

When i take mine in on Friday for this problem (and others), what do I say about a rental? Just ask? Or will they assume that it'll take a while to fix the car and give me one anyway?

What is a TSB? I got my car in May, will I need to take it to the dealer to fix it? Does it apply to automatics?

Does it cost anything to take my car to the dealer for a check up?

P.S. is it true you get free oil changes from mazda?

The oil changes aren't "free" unless you are including them into your financing. I get coupons sent to me every time service is needed for $18, which is not too bad. I feel better about taking it to the dealer than anywhere else.

With the oil change they do a check up on your vehicle, the report is then mailed to you.

Welcome to our happy little corner of the internet.

NAYo2002
Technical Service Bulliten.
These are repaired for free by the mazda dealer and they should even provide you a rental car.
Standard or autos can have the problem we are discussing.

Nah, what I always did was call and tell them ahead of time, and scheduled a loaner. It took three days for them to reprogram my ECU for the cold rattle fix, as they were really back-logged.

That's ok, the 2001 Integra they rented me was driven enough to make up for it. :-)

Anyways, tell them up front you want a rental for a warranty repair and what day you're bringing your car in, I never had any problems out of the 4 times I did it.

Good luck!

Hey guys, I just called mazda to get my car checked out for the cold startup noise.. Its not that bad, bit it kinda rattles and my clutch kicked back the other day at start up? I dont know what that means.. Im bringing it next week, so i will hit you guys with info when I get some.. Lates

If I don't actually have the problem, can I get them to "fix" it on the TSB anyway (just for security measures)?
If it ain't broken don't fix it.

P.S. For security measure stay away from mechanics.

damn...$18?? thats cheap. The dealer send me mail every time the oil change is due but its for $27 bucks.. I live in the bay area Cali.
I called the dealers around here silicon valley, and no they dont have any p5 problems about cold start up or that clunking noise so wut they want to do is check my car and give me a rental car but if they said if the noise is covered by warranty then they'll fix it if not covered then im screwed....u guys said its on the TSB? where the hell is that s***? is that TECH.
