Engine lack of power recall a bad idea?

I just purchased an RX-8 and called the dealership to find out if there were any open recalls. The only open one was a recall about lack of power to the engine. The service rep said that they had a customer that had this recall done and he's now having problems with the car flooding ever since.

Anyone have any experience with this? Sounds like I should have the recall done but i'm leery if its going to cause flooding...

You will have to give us a full description of the recall that your are referring to. Is your car experiencing any problems or were you just trying to make sure you are up to date?

IIRC the most recent recall that referenced "lack of power" was for the catalytic converters. If you were experiencing that problem you would know it. Also, I think you are referring to service or technical bulletins rather than recalls.

My car isn't experiencing any issues, I just was making sure it was up to date.

The recall in question is this one:

MAZDA SPECIAL PROGRAM (MSP16) - ENGINE LACK OF POWER - PCM REFLASH Added 03/14/08

i had a 2004 model and it was reflashed numerous times early on without issue. you should be fine having it done, it was pretty common in the early models. mine was stock though so if that guy had done any mods it possibly could have made a difference. i still miss my baby and it's been over four years (cryhard)
