Engine Bay Acc wiring point ?

Hi all -

I am installing a set of LED DRL's into the panel above the fog lights on my CX5 Sport in Aus.
I have mounted them an they work fine with constant 12v but I cannot find a suitable switched accessory or 12v engine run connection point ( the second switched state on the keyless start is accessory ? - where all the lights are on before starting the car ).

Basically my Cx5 doesnt have factory DRL functionality, but I wish to find the wiring and switching.

I investigated the fuse box in the engine bay extensively ( I am an elec engineer ) and found some switched 12V locations but they cannot drive the current ( 1A needed for the LED's) - or even regular horn relays (250ma coil current ). There must be locations in the engine bay with a switched 12v near the fuse box. The fuse box in the engine bay just has constant 12v. Alernatively, can anyone suggest a 'DRL" controller that takes constant 12v and determines its own engine run state for DRL activation ?

i dont want to go a Solid State Relay path as I dont wish to load up connection points and prefer the find the higher current connection points in the engine bay - so I dont need to find something in the cabin and wire it back into the engine bay.

I put Phillips Daylight4's DRLs on my daughter's 2012 Mazda 3 i that I found on Amazon. The control unit only hooked to battery voltage but comes on when you start the car. It also had a prob to the parking light so when the lights are on the DRLs turn off so if you could find the controler without buying the lights you would be set. It appears to monitor the voltage and when above about 13 volts (alternator is charging) to connect the lights. When you turn off the engine it takes a few seconds for the lights to go off as the voltage drops. The quiet current appeared to be low. On a 96 Miata I tapped into the winshield wipers fuse and it worked fine for DRL but they were allways on and if your DRL leds are bright you do not want them on at night as they will be blinding other drivers and a ticket trap.

Engine Bay Acc wiring point

If i was to get a car with over 100,000 miles on it, how do i make the mileage go back to zero? Do i renew some or all the internals or do i just have to get a whole new engine. What about if it comes with a turbo? Do you think its all worth it? - Thanks.

Hi cx5aus,

I have just bought a set of the same DRL Lights for my Mazda CX5, The Kit I bought comes with all the Wiring Harness, Control Box to make the DRL's Light up.

I noticed that you have just the DRL Lights, I have also been thinking about installing them, but have given up on the idea.

What would be the perfect set up to these DRL's is to actually wire them to an Accessory Wiring Feed, therefore having them activate with the turn of the Key, then when key off, they are off.

I dont know if I want to go to all this trouble, did you get them up and running on you car????

Any thoughts regarding these DRL's is really appreciated.

Cheers

I just got the same fog light drls, also Sydney based. Has anyone had success installing these? I'm going to give it a shot but I wanted to see if anyone had a write up before I tackle it solo
