Email to Sport Compact Car Magazine

btw-i wonder if you could get em to print their responce in the magazine? lol

Guys, I was just kidding...I made that up. That's why I put "fake" at the bottom...

In all honestly, I don't think they would even email you back..LOL, didn't think anyone would actually believe that response was real. Maybe I sould do more writing!

Correct me if I'm mistaken. But I think everyone is under the impression the the below response is an official response. I think mspdfreak was just trying to make a point...

SCC's Reply...

"Thank you for your letters. The reason we didn't include the MSP in our top 100 is because mazda never advertises in our magazine. As you may or may not know, we don't include ANY car in our prestigious list that doesn't either give us a free project car, or provide more than $50,000 in advertisement per year. We put performance and reliability aside, and use the almighty dollar as our benchmark for rating cars. Hope this answers your questions and concerns.
The Editors"

Fake, but true...
(fu)...SCC!

I thought that was crazy straight forward. I'm gonna delete my response and pretend like I'm not an idiot.

i wouldnt doubt it, but was like- $50000 is A TON of ads. that'd be like 2 full page ads in every month for two years. i would know :)

Hi..did the same thing emailed them andeven posted at their message board of why no msp or even MP3...but hence the title SPORTS COMPACTS 100 best...and you find SUPRAS AND SKYLINE...is that a compact car?....they didnt even put in the volkswagen beetle...(hey they did race those back in the days and even drag raced them)...good thing they put in the older version of the proteges like the 323 gts and gtx....that feature theyhad was a bunch of crap...they got a lot of negative response with that...

Damn I thought that was for real also. Has anyone recieved an email back for real this time? I want an explanation!(protest)

hmm, mazda did advertise in their mag before...it was with the wings west mp3, talking about chassis tuning and what not...but i guess because their reader's rides that are sent in are just full of tiburons and such and rarely (actually i've never seen a 3rd gen besides the MSP/MP3 in there) see one submitted. plus the advertising dollars. yes.

i agree with slug. it's a magazine, ya so what, that means whats published in it has no meaning? of coarse it does. Actually, SCC has always been fair with the MP3 and Mazdaspeed in their oppinions of it. That's why i felt the need to inquire what happened with the top 100 list. And there were several other mazdas on the list, it even mentions the new Mazdaspeed Miata, so I dont understand the ommission of the MSP at all. The whole "Mazda doesn't pay them enough" explanation doesnt make sense to me either. As I mentioned, there was a wide range of cars on the list, including lots of older Mazdas. By the way, still no response.

No the point is, why do you CARE? It's a magazine! What's the big deal?

Uh oh I smell this being locked away and thrown in the dumpster. Well I personally dont care whether it gets in or not, just ads more to the "wtf" factor when you smoke a car in the twisties or suprise some car that didn't expect much out of a "protege". Just another reason why I bought the car, I didn't want it recognized, I wanted a rare decently balanced car and that's what I got, but I can see that if someone is self conscience about their car and cares about what others think of it why some would want it in the magazine. I believe that is what some are getting at, who cares what others think. We know where our cars stand we dont need some people from a magazine who drove the car a couple of times to tell us.

I think my point is being missed. I agree that many MSP owners like the fact that our cars are overlooked and unknown to many. I even stated that in my email. What puzzles me is that SCC had always raved about the MSP. In every article they ever wrote about the MSP, they seemed very appreciative of the MSP's qualities and seemed to understand exactly what this car is about. (balance, handling, value) So the MSP not being in the top 100 list which included cars it had beaten in previous tests and comparisons confused me. WHAT CHANGED THEIR MIND?? that's all i wnat to know. I'm not angry that they didnt include it. I'm not accusing anyone of favoring one company over another because of the influence of the allmighty dollar. I am merely wondering if their perception of the MSP has changed, and if so, why? Or perhaps they just forgot to include it. All the "it's a magazine, why do you care?" stuff is missing my point. I do care. But not because its a magazine, or because the oppinion of a major publication makes me feel better about myself or my car. I care because these people, as I said before, seemed to know what the MSP was about. And they either changed their mind or forgot. I was just curious.

I fully agree with your reasoning, if I ment any offense by my comments I was just suggesting not to your comments but the defensive comments made by others. I understand your reasoning. I could care less whether it made it too or not but I was also curious at first why it didn't make it considering how much they did like it, but I'm not making a big fuss out of it as some other comments have been.
