Electrical Issue?

Hi all,

I would like to know if this is normal or not with our cars. When I have the lights, stereo, and air (No AC) on it sounds like the alternator is cycling and every once in a while my instrument panel dims slightly and then goes back to normal. It sounds like the fan comes on a drains power when this happens. I guess I want to know if this is normal with our cars?

Thanks

I've been noticing the same thing.

I think it is related to running an 80amp alternator in a car that probably needs 100-120....

I have this problem as well. I reinforced my grounds by running extra grounds daisy-chained to the body, eng. block, trans. case, etc. and it did help but the prob. is still there. The stock ground on mine, (2002 Pro. DX), was pathetic. One small cable run to the driv. strut tower and that's it. After the mod. I noticed my lights were brighter and stereo sounded better at high volume. It's def. worth the few bucks I spent at the car audio shop for cables and gold plated ring terminals. Plus your electrical system, (battery, alternator, etc.) will thank you in the long run.

yeah i also noticed the same thing when the stereo is up. they will slightly dim... i think we need better alternators.
