Key Fob and Turn Signal only Electrical Issue

2006 Mazda M6S HB Sport S

I have an interesting issue that just started happening. The day after a very downpour, my fob wouldn't unlock the the doors and the turn signals wouldn't work. I checked the fuses, and sprayed some contact cleaner into the fuse box but no dice. I disconnected the battery for 20 minutes and when I reconnected the fob and turn signals worked fine.

A week to the day later I had the same issue, again after a heavy downpour. Disconnected the battery which again fixed it.

Almost a week to the day yesterday, without any rain, the problem happened again. So now I'm thinking I have a part going bad, but uncertain as to what it might be. Any thoughts on what controls the fob from unlocking the doors and the turn signals only?

Any thoughts / suggestions are much appreciated especially anyone who has had this particular problem in the past.

Thanks!

Usually such functions are handled by the Front Body Control module which (thru the CAN bus) actuates relays that control many functions. I'm surprised you don't have any alarms lit up in the cluster, you didn't indicate so. This module's functions can be manually manipulated using the "Special Functions" section on a bi-directional scanner. They can also do a self-test. Perhaps if you don't have this type of scanner you could borrow a friends. In your case, it appears as if moisture has something to do with the malfunctions so I'd first remove the module and check for the presence of moisture which causes poor contact. Any sign of green efflorescence is a sure sign of poor connectivity. These units are easily removed for inspection. Also check for worn or frayed harness looms in this area by checking all points of contact of the wires with other objects. Stains on the module cover or wire harness from foreign liquids that shouldn't be there indicate something has dripped on them.

Thanks for the reply. I will definitely check that out.

Thanks again for the all the replies! We tried several suggestions (except replacing the BCM) to no avail so we opted to sell it, with full disclosure to the buyer and bought a 2012 Civic. When I told the buyer what it was doing, without hesitation he said sounds like the BCM. Plus, at the price we sold it for he was happy even with its issues.
