Eibach & Tein P5 owner Q

I sold my MSP struts, and will be re-installing my OE KYB's this weekend. I'm keeping the Eibach's, so don't worry. :D

Question is, even though Eibach doesn't state to cut the bumpstops on the OE struts, I'm thinking of trimming them a bit. If you've seen the OE bumpstops, you'd be asking the same question. They're freak'n huge!!!!!

Have any of you cut your bumpstops, or did you just leave well enough alone? I didn't trim them the first time around (before installing the MSP struts,) but it seemed to have rode them fairly often (local roads are a bit rough in my neck of the woods.)

Any help appreicated!

Thanks

hello mackdaddy,
ah ha... maybe that's that weird noise i hear when i go over sever speed bumps or dips. it's almost like spicy's clunk. it's not as severe, but it's definitely there. i must be just hitting my bumpstops. thanks for the info!

Nah, when you "ride the bumpies" they don't really make noise. They just bounce you more than you'd like. ;)

Thanks for the input guys. Keep'm coming!

i have tein, when installing, it said not to cut anything also. hehe so dont cut um! - chris

then what's that sound????

There's a thread about using some washers on the top of the rear struts (under the retaining nut.)

But to tell you the truth, the ends of the sway bar sit damn close to the rear control arms. Go take a look! It's closer than it is at OE stock ride height, and makes contact when you're rock'n down the road over bad roads (i.e. R.R. tracks, potholes, etc.) I can see where mine have made some contact. We need slightly shorter endlinks in the rear!!

holy cow... i just went outside to look at the rear... you're so right! wow. that's not very much distance between the rear control arms and the rear sway bar.

back to your original question... i obviously haven't cut mine and i haven't experienced the bounciness you elude to. i say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

See, I told ya! ;)

I'll leave the bumpies be.... actually it should help maintain strut longevity that way. :D

Thanks!

All done

Not that anyone cares... but I like it loads better. OE P5 struts, and Eibach springs. Plus, I put my 17's back on. :D

Didn't cut the bumpstops at all. And, just for everyones info:

P5 OE front struts = KYB
P5 OE rear struts = Tokico

(scratch) (scratch)

I didn't realize this till last night. Just though everyone would like to know that little tidbit! :)

Happy as a clam,
Jim
