Effectiveness of Air Conditioner???

Had our new Mazda5 about 3 weeks now. Stormy blue GT - What a great vehicle, in and very much in the Mazda tradition.

One question - the AC system does not seem to blow the coldest of air. Is this common - system may be marginal for really warm climates (been 95+ with high humidity in St Louise this last week). May not hurt to have the dealer give it a look, but just want to ask. Had the windows tinted today. Besides looking much better, should help keep the interior cooler too.

Great forum - good for making a great vehicle better. Thanks much, Gary

Yeah i feel the same way I have it on the highest setting and after awhile you will start feeling the cold air i have the windows tinted too it seems to hold the heat in but i have to roll down the window to let some of the hot air in the car out then roll up the windows then turn the A/C on other wise it will take longer to get the car cooler.I live in Portland,Oregon where it doesn't get all that hot but lately it has been HOT

I cannot tell what normal would be, but just perform a search in the forums for some older threads, you'll find out the Mazda5's A/C is not famous for being the best in the market :D

Both of mine blow cold air and do their job but it might take longer to cool the cabin down in very hot areas compared to other cars (even more 06s and 07s which come with no 2nd row vents)

Mine blows cold air, only thing I notice is its kinda noisy compared to my old caravan especially when I just started the engine.

few suggestions

1. get tinted
2. roll down the windows first to let the heat out
3. always start with Max a/c
4. get 08 with rear a/c vent.. ^^(cool)

I have the dumb question of the day but are you circulating the AC Air inside your car and not sucking in that hot air from outside? I found not many people have been explained its correct operation...

The A/C is capable, but needs fiddling to keep the interior cool: high fan setting, recirc, direct vents upwards, open windows at start of trip, etc. Having recently moved South, and recently sweating through 100+ temps, I was happy to discover that the A/C did keep up, although with the fiddling. It's definitely not a set-and-forget kind of system. We do have the manual HVAC, though, which in my opinion makes it easier to fiddle with.

It's a set and forget system for me. I keep the Temp setting at 70 and let it do the rest. The only thing I do manually is turn the rear air on when people are back there. And sometimes I turn recirc on if there is a smelly diesel in front of me. I live in San Diego (inland) where it's not SUPER hot, but it's still 90+ and 100+ some of the time.

To me I just have to turn it off before I turn off the engine so it will be off when I restart. It helps so I would not be bothered by the noise after starting. After pulling out of the garage itsok to turn on the ACC and let it be no more noise.

Tiniting really is the key to the whole deal. The AC is more than adequate once you get the rear windows tinted. We had 6 people in the 5 with 115 degree heat in Savannah Georgia and everyone was comfortable for over an hour drive to Hilton Head Island.
