ECU ReFlash to MP3 Option

The answers to your questions are available using the search function. But since you're new I'll be generous: VTCS is an emissions control device which makes our cars ULEV compliant but slightly hurts high-rpm performance. The MP3 ECU requires premium fuel. The HP gain is about 5whp, but the real payoff is smoother power delivery. On the flipside, there are reports that it sucks at low rpm with the a/c on.

I recall Ken said he has no plans for this. It's dead.

Blast. I just read 6 pages of replies only to find out it's a dead topic. Boo!

But I can simply buy a 3rd generation, manual tranny Protege ECU and it's plug and play for my '02 P5? That's TOO appealing to pass up.

*edit* my eyes are fried from reading posts all day. Can someone please kindly post the ECU part number I should look for? I should be looking for a '99-'03 Protege ecu with only the 2.0 liter motor? Huge thank you in advance...

I got one for sale let me know. Its from my MP5 5-speed $125 shipped or you can bid for it on ebay here

^^^ Well, that's what I'm running right now. I am looking for the MP3 ecu. But thanks though.

its probably not a good idea to advertise the ECU here to folks on the forums IF you have people currently bidding on an open auction on Ebay for it...just food for thought, obviously people on ebay have priority

lol I just got a MP3 ECU installed this week. Love it. I can feel the difference. You will not find one under $300
Number are:
FS9N-18-881
FS9N-18-881B
FS9N-18-881C
Hope you find one. Because it took me 3 months to find the one I got.

Yep and he can bid too. Well I guess I didnt think that he might not have a ebay account...but who does not?

Thanks for the part numbers! I really appreciate it. And if it was the ECU I needed I would've gone through ebay anyway. So it's all good.

Your best bet would be to check locally first. Then check here in the F/S section. Then if nothing, google junkyards and email them what you are looking for. Be careful because I got people trying to sell me ecus that are not from MP3.

Thanks again for all the info. I will just look around locally first. I'm in no huge hurry yet. I've got about $1200 in parts on the way so I'm going to be a bit busy under the car. Muhaha!

But just so I'm clear, it's a '99-'03 Protege with a manual tranny and 2.0liter, right? I just bought my P5 last week so I'm pretty new to Mazda's but am learning TONS from the forum.

well actually it only came in a Mazda MP3. Thats the name of the car. Yes it has a 2.0L engine but so did our MP5. Make sure that the ECU has
FS9N-18-881 or FS9N-18-881B or FS9N-18-881C. If the ECU does not have any of the model # then its not form a MP3. Another thing, 90% of junk yards will not sell you a ecu thats not for your car. So you have to tell them you have a Mazda MP3.

I have a feeling a lot of my posts are going to include "thanks Riken for all the info". Haha. Thanks again!

(just let me know when you get tired of hearing that and I'll change it up to a different language or something.)

Lol im here to help. This is a great forum. Full of info. If you havent already post a hello im new thread and post pics so we can all welcome you lol. Oh and dont ever forget my new MP5 owner. SILVER IS THE FASTER COLOR. Dont let anyone tell you other wise. Burn that into your brain. Brag about it to all non Sunlight Silver owners. Sunlight Silver FTW!!!!!!

possible good news for the mp3 ecu!

option 1) ive checked and rechecked the part numbers and ive found a website that has the mp3 ecu for sale it sells both the FSN9-18-881 and the FSN9-18-881B models ecu, again ive checked and rechecked the prt. numbers and they match that of the mp3!
the link...http://www.autoecms.com/index1.htm
simply enter in the search area either of those two prt numbers and bingo!

option 2)
anyone in the milwaukee,wi area could possibly get this done, ive been in contact with the parts/service department of hall mazda on bluemound and they said they can reflash our p5 ecu's to mp3, HOWEVER they need an actual mp3 there so they can download the info then transfer it to our ecu's, ANOTHER HOWEVER, they said it is a possiblity that the mp3 ecu can be damaged beyond repair when they attempt to download it, so you might have to buy your new found friend with the mp3 a new ecu from mazda for ungodly amounts of cash.

so thats the news i got after countless weeks spent talking to mazda dealers and scouring the web

no problem guys, haha all for one and one for all, i plan on getting one from that site, that is unless i can find a willing mp3 owner near me...;)
