ECU Readjusting Question

Ok so i just install the corksport full intake system which included the turbo inlet pipe and a corksport catless downpipe, my question is how are you supposed to drive the car after you first crank it after a ecu reset?? Do you have to let it idle for a set period of time, or not gun it for awhile untill everything gets adjusted??

thanx

Just go easy on the throttle for the next 100 miles or so. Baby it a bit and refrain from pinning the throttle and hitting too much boost.

thats completely necessary for the ecu to reset correctly?? no throttle for 100 miles?? thats gonna be really hard lol

I disagree about babying it for 100 miles.

The better protocol would be for the ECU to learn your specific normal driving habits. Vary throttle position. Vary engine load, vary speed. Just don't go WOT for about 50 miles, and then limit WOT to no more than drag strip type time intervals (no more than approx 15 seconds) for maybe another 25-50 miles. By then, the ECU will have learned your habits. You did disconnect the battery when you did your install? If not, you need to d/c a battery cable and hold down the brake pedal to bleed any residual power, and then reconnect the battery cable to "reboot" the ECU.

Do you have a boost gauge or some type of data logger? If not, you need one with the catless DP to watch for any boost creep. Stay with your stock BPV to begin with and make sure you are holding boost, maybe spiking up to 20 and settling back to 16 or so, but not creeping above stock levels.

You'll be very happy with the changes. You do need one step colder plugs. Do that NOW, as you will be more vulnerable to knock now if you don't change to heat range 7. And with a catless DP, burn 93 octane fuel if it is available.

ok cool, ya i disconnected it while i did the install i was just making sure on the driving after...i have a boost gauge in the mail will be here soon, i also put in denso 1 step colder plugs at the same time, and i always run 93 octane gas on my turbo vehicles

dont baby it or its never going to do any adjusting or 'learning' in the upper regions of the MAF tables. drive it like normaly, going wot you're not going to blow but i wouldnt be driving it super hard either

everything seems to be cool...i hit fuel cut in 3rd gear hard tho..and i spin all the way throu 1st and 2nd...kinda sux :(

I don't recall saying no throttle coz that would defeat the purpose of having a car. By babying it I really mean, try not to boost too hard and/or too much at any given time. You don't want to go WOT for the first 100 miles or so.

Sounds like you are having fun with the new power except for the fuel cut. Fuel cut is your friend, IMHO. You may be overboosting and it's preventing damage. What is your boost gauge telling you? Spike to what, settle at what? Any creep above 15-16 that is trying to hold, right before you get the cut?

Do you have the stock BPV or an aftermarket? You might find that the stock BPV, if it has a little bit of high boost leak, might actually be beneficial in preventing the fuel cut in third you are experiencing without giving up any significant power gains. A small BPV leak might actually allow it to hold steady at 15-16-17 psi rather than overboost with the DP.
