ECU questions?

Hey I have a 2003 Mazda Protege5 with the 4 speed automatic transmission. It has the sport shift option as well. What I am trying to figure out (because I don't know to much about the mechanics of a car) is if I can use maybe an auto Mazda3 ecu or any other ecu to get that 5th gear? Or do I need to do a full trans swap? Thanks for your guys input!

No. To get 5 speeds, you need an actual 5 speed transmission. And the ECU controls a lot more than just the transmission...a Mz3 ECU wouldn't work at all (the car wouldn't run). The only plug-and-play ECU swap is the MP3 ecu, and you need a 5 speed manual for that.
