Eclipse GT-S all show, no go???

:
MSP & MS3
So I'm workin on my house when all of a sudden a blue Eclipse pulls in my driveway. Earlier that day, my friend said he was going to look at some cars... I never thought he'd buy one!! After seeing the cheesy dealership front plate, I figured he was test driving it. As I'm climbing down my ladder... I'm like, where the hell's the salesguy??? No where in sight! Homez bought the car!! Looks pretty sweet, I must say. I'd HATE to own a car that EVERYONE seems to have. But at least he got a unique color. Anyway, it's an '03 GTS and we're supposed to race this weekend. (He's been talkin so much s*** his mouth turned brown) I'm not a talker personally... I let my actions speak for themselves. But, like most of you I'm sure, I'd like to win this race!! It'll literally be my first race so wish me luck! Does anyone have any tips??? Any experience racing these things? We're going to the track and will do the 1/4 mile... I drove it and the thing's pretty quick! I actually spun the tires without even trying... anywayz, boss is kickin us out so time to go. L8R!!

Practice your launces this week and you will have no trouble smoking that car. The only chance you have of losing is if you get a lot of wheelspin when you first launch. If you can keep yourself calm and get a nice steady launch you can redline 1st, drop into second, hear those tires chirp and watch your friend appear in your rearview.

Also I've found I get much better runs at partial throttle. If I floor the gas I sometimes get the hesitation issue everyone talks about, and once you get that, you've already lost the race. But if I go at partial throttle and give it more gas as the revs go up, ending up nearly floored just before I shift I get a nice clean straight pull all the way through each gear.

After you spank your friend on the track tell him he's a real dumbass for racing his brand new car without any break-in period.

My friends and i have a 93 eclipse that looks almost just like that one that we plan to work on here in the next few months!

I think you can beat the eclipse.
edit: You are going to a track right?

Specs on 03 Eclipse GT-S

6 Cyl with 210 hsp and 205 ft-lbs with a body weight of 3307 lbs.

Thats about 450 lbs more of weight than your Speed. So unless you're a real fat ass it should compensate for the extra 30 horsepower and ft lbs. Plus chances are if it's so easy to burnout in his eclipse he'll be spinning his wheels a lot longer than you will with your limited slip

I've got an '03 GTS sporty and you'll beat him as long as you get a good launch. Eclipses have alot of torque for about 3 seconds but after they get rolling the suspension sucks all that away. Not too mention it scares the hell out of you floating around like you're driving a '78 Olds.

Don't worry you'll win. It's like day and night compared to my MSP.

Hey I used to have a '78 gutless supreme, that thing was ballzy. But you do have a point, it handled like noah's arc on a magic carpet.

Good luck in the race Chico!

YUK! A third gen!!!! SiCk

It shouldn't even get the privilage of having the word Eclipse on it!

Sorry.

To each his own. Its just really sad that DSM didnt make the 3rd gens as well.

And for the record I would take a FIRST gen over a second anyday! 6 BOLT all the way, I dont like my cars walking.

i like the way you think

i raced my friends gts last month, we were neck and neck until the i heard the turbo screamin in second and by the time we went across the line i had him by a car length....just dont get too nervous or you're ganna end up messin up on the start, that happened to me my first couple races.

3rd gen eclipses = gay.

only thing i see driving them around here are girls. tons of girls.

only thing better than a 1st gen eclipse is a 2nd gen with a 6 bolt swap :) . sorry i just love the curves of the 2g. I was very close to getting a 2g gsx, but just couldn't find a color i wanted, all i could find was the purple/gray, green, and red. and i wanted black or silver.

Mitsu should have never named it eclipse. it's more along the lines of a sebring or stratus.
chrysler's influence over mitsubishi is ridiculous and sad.
But my wife loves it:D

Wow!! I actually thought his car was nice... I mean, I've read the reviews and realize it's not the high-performance machine it once was but it's still a nice ride! (in GTS trim at least) I know I'll kill it on the track.. but I was a bit nervous about the 1/4. According to car stats.com, the 2 cars are virtually identical in that regard. Though I'm certainly not a fat ass, I'm definitely a big guy (220) while he's a little piece of s***! hahaha (hi Matt!) But I'm gonna race him with my gas light on... that way I make up for some of the weight. He's already got a 50lb sub box in his trunk so I shouldn't have any problem kickin his ass. I'll keep you guys posted. Last thing... why was this moved???

If your 220 then he should still be about 285 lbs heavier all together. Again just practice your launches this week and you should be fine. Your turbo will pull your car through the revs quicker than his NA V6.

and the thread was moved cause it's about racing

you mean gs-t? there is no turbo on the pos gts or any 3g.
and a 1g talon is the way to go, although what i want to start to build once i get out of school is a 92 talon awd with a 6/4 bolt combo (if anyone knows what that means, you must own or have owned a dsm :))

six-bolt flywheel/four-bolt attachment on rear axle cups

six-bolt also has better head, larger throttle body and bigger rods vs. 7 bolt

Am I close?

I just traded a 01 Eclipse GT for a 03 Protege5. It has nice torque and power but it handles like a sedan. My 03 SE-R had no problem handling a Eclipse GT. We traded because it seems that everyother car was a Eclipse and we were getting tired of being challenged all the time.

Sorry guys... mods moved this thing and I couldn't find it!! Anyway, as far as "the race" goes... he was wimping out for a while but I finally raced him. it wasn't even close!! I mean... we both got bad starts but once we got our footing, I was in front of him by a couple car lenghts (around 60mph) and he didn't show any signs of catchin me... I wanted to go to the track with him but he was bitching about putting "all those" miles on it (the track's like 40 miles away) so we just raced down the pike. Anyway... I was pretty impressed!! I drove his car and was a bit worried because it has a ton of power. but as they say... hp is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you go through it.
