Here are two shots of the Injen CAI and the Ebay CAI. I'll also include a picture of the two filters seperatly. This thread is for those who seem to think the Ebay intakes are of some lesser quality than name brand pieces.

its all the same, pipes & filter. paint the ebay one black and slap on an injen sticker and you won't be able to see or feel the difference.

Yeah exactly. The ebay one is on my car, and it looks just as good "If I cleaned it" and works just as well as the $150 more Injen. I just don't get some people obession with name brands, even if it's a name on a metal tube.

I guess yours also has a CARB APPROVED sticker/plate for people that need it in cali and dyno sheets that are posted like they have on Injens website for that specific make not to mention that most of the e-bay intakes **** with the master brake cylinder where they have damaged it and come with a POS filter. Not to mention all the R&D that all the e-bay intakes have gone through. I for one still suggest that people should go with either K&N typhoon or Injen if they are going to stay N/A for a while like myself and spend more $$ if your going turbo in a short period of time might as well save your money and go to Home depot and ghetto rig some aluminum tubing and save yourself even more cash.

my biggest concern is the sanding on the inside of the pipings

We see pics from the outsides, I've seen some REAL CHEAP intakes with very poor surfaces on the inside. I use an APC intake from a prelude that I cut and formed my own Short Ram from it, worked great. More than likely I'll go ebay you can always mod it later :)

okay, for the carb sticker, go to a local rice shop, be like "yo homies, hook a fly dood up with a iNjEn carb sticker yo" They'll probably do it for free if you say it exactly like that, and your carb problem is solved!

As far as the rubbing issues, if you install it right it wont rub. You gotta finagle it a little to get it right up on the TB, but mine has never rubbed once, nor have any others that I've seen on my friends cars.

Look at the filters. What's wrong with the one that came with the ebay one? Even if it's a POS filter and you buy an apex'i filter, the best available, it's still over $60 cheaper than an Injen.

It's a metal tube they buy wholesale form metal tube benders, or they buy a shitload of tube and have an in-house mandrel bender that they use on it. They dont manufacture there own pipes like car makers do, so there's no danger of rough casts or anything.

too bad it's not a sticker it's a welded metal plate I have the Injen intake that's how I know it's not a sticker it's a metal plate that has everything etched into it and has specific carb #'s printed so good luck with that.

and at least injen has dyno proven gains I'am not doubting that the e-bay intake has gains but your won't know at least with injen you know all you have to do is go to www.injen.com and look up your car and see what was the base line and how good it did after with the intake.

Haha, alright man whatever you want. I'm willing to bet the metal plate has a sticky backing that attaches it to the pipe. They probably didn't weld or rivet it on there. If they did, that's idiotic. That's gotta mess with the air flow.

As for the dyno...... it's a ******* metal tube. It's the same shape and size. How can there possibly be a difference in the power output? Like, seriously, that doesn't make any sense! Does injen have a secret "power-magnet" pipe or something that pulls air particles along toward the TB? A mini electric supercharger built into the pipe? I don't see how there can possibly be a difference of more than maybe 1-2 hp between the two (disregarding filters cause of course a K&n is gona help, but Apex'i is beter, and as I mentioned, cheaper)

By the way, they dont even have a dyno for a normal protege. They have one for a MSP and a 6. So what's the point of even saying that they have dynos if they dont have one for our car?

It all depends on the buyer I'am not saying people who buy the e-bay intake are stupid I'am just pointing out some flaws that it has but you make it seem that anyone that has an Injen intake or the K&N typhoon are so stupid because they payed for it. I for one have spent a lot of $$$ on my exhaust since I bought the HKS hi-power axle back and some people are like why did'nt you get a full cat-back or why did'nt you get an obx header why did you opt for wagner shorty header instead; it's all up to the person in question we should'nt try to sway people to choose either which way. I plan to get the apexi filter soon on my set-up as well.

Im in no way saying that they're stupid, I'm just trying to inform people who might be considering an intake about the (lack of) differences between the two. I'm friends with lots of people with injens, and I dont think they're stupid, I just dont understand why they opted for the more expensive one.

I personally opted for the Injen b/c it was one of the 1st intakes on the market while I was still waiting for parts on this car, now I wish I have waited and got the K&N typhoon intake because that can be made into a SRI or CAI easily.

if you buy the right one. You got the one with the rubber elbow coming from the throttle body. My first Ebay intake just had an aluminum elboy right there and it rubbed against the master cylinder. Ended up rubbing a whole all the way through.

If you buy the EBAY intake, make sure it has the rubber elbow at the throttle body!

I dont know. I think just to keep water from leakin down to the filter? Luke, you wanna clarify?

Big Eric Estrada fan, huh?

there's that light blue rubber looking ring around the well opening. i know some people have rigged up something like that to secure the tube more in place- i doubt it's used to keep water away. just wondering what it is that's used since it's very clean looking.

do you have a license for that taco?

the pipe was vibrating and rubbing against the hole. i used the hose from my ebay intake, sliced it, and slid it around. It's more of a cushion.
