eBay test pipe?

Looks like there are many cheap testpipes out there on eBay.. My question is if i were to slap one on, removing the second cat, what issues will occure? I'm not too familier with this car's electronics/emessions/sensors etc. Could someone enlighten me? I know the catless DP will throw CELs and im not lookin for any headache like that at the moment.

As far as i know there no sensors on the second cat. So installing a test pipe will not through any CEL. The install will have to be a good fit if not it will leak. This pic is also for the MS6

Test pipe will not throw any CELs. All it will do is make your exhaust a bit louder.

The 2nd cat has no o2 sensor in it so it will not throw a code. Issues you need to look out for is fittament and what its made of... Not worth it to save a few bucks and it rusts out in a year... Also keep in mind the smoking turbo issue usally rears its ugly head after you do the test pipe mod....

However, keep in mind that if your exhaust smokes initially after a test pipe installation, that is normal. It will go away after a few hours.

If you do find that after installation the smoking does not go away, you are experiencing the smoking turbo that VRMS6 is describing. Some people believe that a test pipe can actually cause it. I do not. I believe that the people who experience this after a test pipe install already had a smoking turbo, but the 2nd cat was burning up the remaining residue before it exited the exhaust. For more information about this, check out the smoking turbo thread, etc.

Hey thanks guys! Im gonna snatch up a test pipe then and see how it goes. Ill report back in this thread with results! What do you guys think for gains? Obviously minimal but 1-2hp? Nicer revs?

I haven't had that problem yet and I've had my Corksport turbo back system on my car since July. It has zero cats on it.

And I've had zero issues with smoking..with the exception of stomping on the gas as I accelerate :D

A lot of test pipe fabricators will tell you "20whp gain". You should note that this is at most a 20whp peak gain. The gains across the rev band will probably be between 8-14whp. It is a noticeable difference, but not groundbreaking.

Not to mention the improvement in spool up of the turbo due to the reduced back pressure.

can you just slap a down pipe on a stock MS6 or are there other mods required before doing this??

You can, but I would recommend getting a catted one. The turbo seems to like it more with a little bit of back pressure, and it helps cut the noise down.

holy sh*t! even 10hp from a $80, 10 minute install is nuts! Im excited to get it on. I was bragging to two friends, one w a 04 BMW 330ci ZHP and one w a 02 WRX that id be squeezing another 5hp out of the MS6 for so cheap. 8-14 is dope. They are pretty boggled about the MS6 and its close to 300hp with a few bolt ons. I already stomp the WRX when we drag, the ZHP and i tied the 2nd day i got the car, i bogged terribly on the launch. Hes step-tronic and has gotten better at his shift too. Id bet on me ;)

Oh and this is great news! I'd love to do a DP too eventually but pretty much said screw it because i'd hate to see a CEL light on such a pretty new car. I had no problem modding the crap out of my SER Spec V but i also liked to run over large shrubs with it.

You'll hardly notice any major improvement from the butt dyno. One thing I can say is that it will spool quicker, and I've found this to be true on several logs I had taken with the DH (lost them on an old computer). 2-300rpm quicker is nice, and the throttle response is also a big plus.

Not every mod you throw on the car is about +HP. If it improves the overall experience/drivability of the car, it's also worth considering.

Speaking of, are you still stock?

LOL! butt dyno.. Well since I bought the car a month ago, i've just been tryin to recover from the 14,500 cash I paid and also a lovely school bill. But i'm re-cooping now. So far i just did an airbox mod (plan to do the full PG inlet/intake by Xmas) and I had a local shop delete the muffs. I was thinkin of the 2nd cat delete next. Then by summer run H&Rs , tint and slap some Rotas on it.
