Ebay CAI

The Verdict

the moment you've all been waiting for!! ...

------------> it fits

That's right, after much debate on whether the 7" filter would fit, it does in fact fit. It's a tight fit, and I'll have to take another look at it sometime when it isn't dark and raining. It rests on the plastic cover that shields it from the road because it is so long, and it's a little awkward to get it onto the cai pipe (but this was mostly due to the fact that it was raining and dark and 34 degrees outside so i was rushing, didn't want to get under the car, and couldn't see anything anyways).

I think it's actually louder than the filter that I got with my liveonspeed eBay CAI. It doesn't make as much of a CAI noise, and I think this is either because the K&N bases are rubber or because the air has a much larger area which it can be drawn through (though I realize I'm not drawing in any more air).

I also noticed that with the filter that came with the CAI you could slide it on as much as you wanted to (no lip on the inside of the inlet) but with the K&N it seems like it isn't going on far enough and just stops. Due to the fact that it was dark, there might be no lip on the K&N and it might be getting stuck on something, I'll check it out in the morning.

Stay tuned, tomorrow I'll see what's going on in the light of day.

I didnt convert it to a CAI, I just took the short ram off, ritualisticly burned the filter(kept the piping which is somewhere in the garage) and then got a custom CAI off a buddy in AZ. It is basically 2.25 in piping mandrel bent, exactly same path as the injen and ebay cai only it cost me like 60bux for that and my clear side markers which I also got off Azeli from the mazdasports group.

I was thinking of switching to the ebay cai, but it really doesnt make sense.

If money didn't matter I would still get the ebay intake. Because in the end money DOES matter and you can take the money you saved over the Injen and spend it on other things. They're exactly the same..

Well.. I got mine from Trivision Auto.. Which I've posted the link for in this thread like three times.. However they're on back order right now. No idea when they'll come back again. Otherwise you can get the Liveonspeed one. Same thing. I bet the OBX one is the same also.

HERE IT IS!

Pics of the 7" K&N

(no, i didn't take off my bumper just to get these pictures, i was doing the headlight painting mod)

looks good... although u should really investigate some sort of pipe to feed air into the compartment(ram air) it will definately maximize the impact of that filter.

I wish I was getting mine soon. I ordered it on the 12th. Oh well.. I have a bunch of stuff to do anyways.. Hopefully my stuff that I ordered will come in soon and I'll have the chance to do it, lol. It's supposed to be 60 here thursday and friday, and I have those days off.. I'm hoping to get my headlights painted, fix my shift boot so it will stay up at the shifter, build amp racks, and run all of my speaker wire.. I don't even have amps or speakers or the sub yet but they will be put in as soon as I order them next month. :D Still gotta go buy wood so I can build my sub box too..

Your what? The filter or the intake? My intake got here quickly. The filter takes forever and a day. It still hasn't even shipped yet. Go figure. Doesn't matter too much though. I can't even drive the car right now. :(

Hey that was my plan! This week I'm running the wiring for an amp/sub in the trunk so that maybe I'll go and buy and amp and sub. I already got the headlight painting done, did it yesterday, and it's DEFINITELY WORTH IT

EDIT: Oh and about shipping time. I ordered on the 4th, got mine on the 20th.

intake, i think imma stay with this filter for now

Also I dunno if the machining guys got better, but there's no ruffage around the ends of my pipes. The cuts are pretty clean. There seems to be some leftover dust inside the pipes though, but that's easy to get out with a damp cloth and a stick or something...

Mine FINALLY shipped today... damn.. lol..

And it's supposed to rain and storm ALL WEEK.. so my plans are getting ruined. :(

Hey all... I just bought mine today. Has anyone out there installed one of these, and, if so, would they be willing to post their results (difficulty, what they think of the performance, etc.)? Thanks, guys (and gals)!

It's SO easy to put this thing in. The butt dyno won't really give much in the way of feeling more horsepower but the sound is worth it 100%, and maybe helps to make you think it's faster too. :)

Step 1) Stay awake

Step 2) Find basic hand tools

Step 3) Drink soda, continue working

Step 4) finish install, drive around making swooshing noises with intake

Step 5) Make a post about how neat it is

NOTE: It's really easy :)
