E-Manage powered Mazdaspeed!

hey it will work with a protege 5 i have mine in and running other than i fried a coil pack but thats another story thanks alot turboge you have help out alot

Update 12/25/03:

After having a bit of experience with tuning the unit I have found it very unreliable. The factory MSP ecu is very good at negating the changes that the E-manage makes. I've been running into massive detonation above 5000rpm with absolutely NO changes to the fueling or ignition maps.

I've reset the ECU numerous times, changed the maps and changed the way it maps the changes (relative pressure, airflow voltage, etc..) and it still doesn't hold changes. It will run great for the tune that you do while the car is running, but after the car gets shut-off and you drive again, it won't run the same way as the previous run.

Because the ECU does not go into OPEN loop at set TPS or even at set RPM, the programming is very very touchy. You can add X amount of fuel to 3000rpm when at X boost, but then again X boost is variable between 20-100% Throttle... which could trigger OPEN loop and take your 12:1 to 9:1 instantly.

If anyone else has had better luck with the unit on the MSP let me know and I can try out your settings, but for now I have to reset the ecu again and set everything to 0 and hope that it doesn't keep detonating.

Any standalone is always a better choice. I had the opportunity to try something new and took it. Whether or not I'll be able to get the ECU to stop learning is another problem. It just varies too much between different drives right now.

Either way I'll continue to play with it and hope I can come up with something. Spool has informed me that the cars he's tuned on don't emit the same problems as my car, but it's hard to say what is causing this right now, my finger is pointed at the FMIC.

well it all seemed too good to be true :(... but in either case the whole protege community is grateful to you guys (especially turboge) for all the effort that youve put into this endeavour on your own time. we can only hope that you find a way to perfect the system... good luck

Sounds like what is always run into by focus owner and ford ecus . all the ford ecus fight piggyback systems. was hoping this might be diffrent .oh well Standalone it is.

I got a chance to play with it some more and it still ended up changing back to run like stock. I made it think the injectors were 15% larger and it ran great till i restarted the car. Never went over 80% duty cycle.

So next week the e-manage comes out, fmic comes out, car is going back to stock and being prepped to sell.

EECV adaptive strategies = no good for upgrades .
We are working on a standalone plug and play. Pm me if your interested.

Perf - Yeah I'm pretty much finished with the car and its tuning potential right now. I hit the limits with the haltech and experimented enough to get a good feel for the rest of the community. In about 4-6 months I'll be driving something with 6 speeds and 300/300 ;)

You dirty STi driving ho! :D

That's what it sounds like anywho...if I'd had the money at the time it wouldn't have been a question. But I still love my Mazdaspeed...make sure it gets a good owner, Braden!
