Duplicate key for Touring?

Hello,

This is my first post. I can't seem to easily search the forum so I decided to post my question.

We recently purchased a CX-9 Touring with a traditional metal key.

Is it possible to have a hardware store or locksmith create a duplicate key?

I have seen posts about difficulties with the smart keys.

Thanks.

Update- I visited two key shops who did not think they could make a copy because of the possibility of a chip in the key. I then called two dealers who said that a key only without the fob could be purchased for $50-60 and it would require programming.

This is my wife's car and I had hoped to carry a smaller key without the fob but it looks like that will be relatively expensive.

Key with chip at iKeyless.com

I've ordered a key with a chip (since I couldn't find a place that would sell a full remote) from iKeyless.com. I haven't received it yet, have no afilliation with the company, but thought it might be what you're looking for.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to train the car to accept the key using the previously described steps.
