Dupli-Color Metalcast For Hubs And Calipers?

I was looking for the best product to paint my rotor hubs and calipers when I came upon Dupli-Color Metalcast. I'm thinking of doing my hubs and calipers in the yellow. It says it is only heat resistant up to 500 degrees, does anyone know if this will be enough? I really like the look of the anodized yellow and think it would great in contrast to my yellow car.

500 deg paint should be good enough. 1000 would be better but it's probably not going to be a big difference.

i really doubt 500 will be enough, over time it reportedly chips...i used 900

don't use 1200 degree paint tho, it wont get hot enough to cure, and will remain slightly tacky until heated.

RazorP5-How long do you think it would last before chipping? Because if its a relatively long time i wouldn't have a problem with respraying them every now and then.

Just found this on the Dupli-Color wesite:

Dupli-Color METALCAST Anodized colors are formulated to work over properly prepared shiny bare metal, faux chrome-like surfaces or METALCAST Ground Coat to provide a high gloss anodized look. METALCAST colors are heat resistant up to 500 (intermittent). Oil and gas resistant. Ideal for valve covers, air cleaners, water pumps, calipers, and oil pans. Can be sprayed directly on properly cleaned and sanded bare metal.

So it looks like I'm gonna have some nice yellow calipers and hubs in the near future

Metelcast will chip after about 6 months and I had mine bead blasted and high-temp primered before painting.

BlueMP5Dave-So you had Metalcast on your car and it chipped after 6 months? Sorry if I sound stupid but I just wanna make sure I don't put something on my car that isnt gonna look good or last.

I did my calipers last week with Platsikote Annodizit stuff. I'll get back to you soon about durability. I drive a LOT in short periods of time, so we'll see.

I just did my strut bar and battery tie down as well as a few caps int he engine bay with the duplicolor blue anodize paint. The radiator cap has been doen for 3 weeks now and I drive 55 miles to work in AZ heat and it looks liek I painted it yesterday, that was without the groundcoat since it was bare metal(I did use a tack rag though). The strut bar I did last night and in the dark I accidentally touched it in 2 places(should hear me at 12pm in the garage F&*(&S SHI&(*& MOTH&*^&*) good times.

Anyway if you liek I will take some pictures tonight or tomrorow(only day off this week woohoo) of those.

I will also be doing the valve cover(possibly tomorrow =)) and the calipers(this weekend) when I do my eibach pro-kit.

Ill take pictures of each one and upload em. Hopefully they turn out good.

BTW with the duplicolor if it is not bare metal you HAVE to use their ground coat, it is not like a normal high heat primer which is why some people have problems with it. It is actually like glitter paint with metal flakes in it to make a reflective surface for the colored paint to sit on, basically to simulate a bare metal.

Since I did not sand all the paint of the tie down or the strut bar you can compare them to the radiator cap which had no ground coat.

p5sundevil-So are you gonna put a coat of Groundcoat on the calipers or just paint them with the Metalcast? And do you think I would need to put the Groundcoat on the rotor hubs before the Metalcast?

I had metalcast on my last car and I was happy with it until chiped after the first 6 months. I can post pics when I get home. You can get some high temp clearcoat that might help preserve it for a little longer. Be careful if you take the calipers of completely the brake fluid will eat the paint.

hm, I have had my tie bar on a few weeks now like i said and in my engine bay after an hour of driving in 100degree heat it looks like it was just done...i hope this keeps up past this first month but I am not too worried...paint and ground coast is what 10-12bux.

when doing things like the valve cover and calipers I will probably bump up the ground coat to 3 layers instead of 2 and the color coat to 4 instead of 3.

hm....maybe if mine do wear after a few months I will put ona 1200degree clear coat the 2nd time around to ensure its prosparity =P

i used 500 degree temp paint on my rotors and it has been 100% fine for 4 months now. *shrugs*
