The other day i decided to go and rotate my tires again. Got it all jacked up and rotated and took it for a drive. The freakin steering wheel was really cocked to the left I figured it just needed a aligment, but later on thought that it shouldnt need one just because of rotation. Anyway i took it to the garage and the guy came over and ask who jacked the car up, lo and behold i went and jacked up on the tie rods. Man i was pissed, so now they got to get two new ones for me. Luckily they are only about 60bucks a piece. Anyone know where I can get others for cheaper. I am getting them for Mazda now, let me know. Last comment watch what you are jacking on.

I hate having to jack my car up as well because it is kind of hard to find a good jackng point. Where does everyone else jack there cars up from?

Maybe some pictures will help others not make the same mistake.

Might even be a good idea to make a "How To" and post it in the "How To Forum".

Next time you try jacking something, just jack yourself off. At least if you break something, you are insured! LOL Kidding of course. Sorry to hear about the car. Expensive or not, it still costs money.

I jack the car up from the front subframe and the pinch welds on the sides of the car, where you would stick the factory jack.

Is it ok to jack from there or should I just do one side at a time when it goes on jackstands?

This is where I put my jack at. I have a 5 ton floor jack I use. But my jack leaves witness marks.

I know what your talking about also, and I have used that as well. It seems pretty stable from there and plus it gets boths front tires up in the air at the same time. This place seemed o.k. but I'm still not sure about it.

Jackstands are another thing I have problems finding spots for. Very hard to get them adjusted just right so they give proper support.

I actually usually use wheels stands but they're for my friends Montero, so I cant exactly drive up on them. But rotating the tires without cinder blocks is nice (hey, it's alabama, whadyou want?)

so far i've only done this once and i was lucky enough to have a lift with air jacks on it so sorry i can be of no help.

The garage didn't do the damage, the "dumb idiot" was the owner of the car. He tried jacking the car up to do something and jacked in the wrong spot(tie rod ends).

I normally place jackstands on the subframe just under the fog lights when I lift the front and also on the stiffened areas of the pinch welds that run down each side of the car. I normally place my 2 ton floor jack just under the b-pillar(door pillar) to raise both tires on a side at once.

there are these really cool little pieces of plastic (heavy duty) that are placed on the circle part of a jack, and they are square (adaptors designed for this task)and have slots in them so that you can use a jack to jack your car up from the spot where it is meant to be jacked by the stock jack...they are really nice for $2 or something, takes all the guess work out of it, and you still get the ease of a real jack.

i made these out of a hockey puck for my jack. I just cut a 3/8" groove in the puck. It works ok but tends to stick into the frame.
