Drove Dave's cx5...

:
RDX Aspec Adv.
Dave invited me out to drive his OVT tuned cx5 tonight. Great company, and a nice car!

My observations :

Driveability was superb. No foibles or quirks or jerks. The 19 inch tires gave much more feedback through the steering wheel and suspension vs my 17s.

The tune seemed to have less "lug" going up hills. I don't know if it down shifted sooner, or not. Dave says it shifts less now, but I found it comparable to my stock 2015 regarding need to downshift in the hills.

Dave has a Cai and catback, so it was really hard to determine if his was faster and by how much if so, because sounds tend to impress the driver, so to speak. I think that his felt to have a bit more midrange passing power, if I was forced to make a statement. From a stop, I couldn't really tell driving them back to back. Midrange, say, flooring it from 40, his felt a touch stronger if anything.

Long story short, it is my opinion that the OVT tune is good stuff, and definitely doesn't hurt daily driveability, and does offer gains, but will not turn the cx5 into a race car by itself, either.

Dave had the 89 octane tune.

That's great to hear and cool of him to let you test drive it.

I would be curious to hear about the 91 octane tune

Yeah, who is Dave? Is he the guy from OVT chimed in having heated discussion with a frequent poster but MIA recently?

I didn't read all of it, but Dave's cx5 definitely drove very well. The power gain...who's to say, it had a Cai and exhaust too. I do feel that it was actually a bit better driving though, if nothing at all else, and midrange did seem a but peppier. 89 tune, not 91.

I've got sri catback and 93. Also consider that the 17" tire should get better accel than the 19" (im rolling 20"s). You'd probably notice a greater difference when driven on your wheels sonce that's what you know

Ovt isn't MIA, he never really posted here until the shitstorm caused by me posting the group buy for the ovtune. The "mazda 3 tuning" group on facebook is a social page he created.

Oh, I meant the frequent poster who is MIA, not the OVT guy... ;)

Hi all! I'm the "Dave" he is talking about! I was on vacation close to where "Unobtainium" lives so I let him take it for a short drive. Wish we had more time and could do a side by side run!
I am on my 3rd tune from OV Tune and by all means not finished yet.
As John said, I'm only on 89 octane tune so people running the 91 tune will have definitely better gains!
Main reason for meeting him was because in that "other" thread that went sour John had some doubts also so I wanted him to see (feel) for himself what it was all about. I'll agree with Chris though,,, the 17" wheel set up is definitely lighter than the 19" that was on my car!
When I get more funds (yes, I'll take donations!) I plan on a lighter set of wheels/tires!

No, I'm not affiliated with OV Tuned other than one of their customers.

John, it was great meeting you and wish we could of done the testing during daylight hours! Maybe next year we can meet up during the day and run our cars side by side!!!

I'm planning on doing another datalog tomorrow and see what else OVT can do next!
