I'm looking for an aftermarket exhaust, but I have to spend my money a bit at a time. Should I go with a downpipe first, or go with the actual exhaust system? Also, does a "turbo-back" (say, from ION) include the downpipe? And, I'm going to have this installed, and the the exhaust guy says I have to have a cat to work on it at all. Does ION's come with one? Thanks.

For Search Nazis: Yes, I did search, but "ION" is two letters short of allowing me to do so.

He must be saying that you have to have a cat on it so that you can have it inspected. I believe here in NC that you have to have one( to pass emmisions tests), so maybe legally he can't install one without it.

definetly get the downpipe first. But if you have the money get a turboback. A turboback exhaust is the full exhaust system starting from the turbo all the way back to the muffler so yes that includes a downpipe. I believe Ions turboback does come with a hi flow cat or you can get it without which ever you prefer. If you dont want a cat take it to another aftermarket place and im sure they will install it for you

Ion's turboback has a CAT, with a delete option i believe (replacement pipe for the CAT section for track use).

If you can do it all at once a Turbo Back is the answer. I would recommend getting a Hi-Flow cat unless you really need the turbo to spool as fast as possible. The difference with Hi Flow and without might only appear in your mind. It is only a 2.0L engine, and although on paper, there is a difference, the reality may not be worth the penalty of running without emission controls.
