Downpipe on,so is Check Engine light-s***!

oh its certainly a quality peice alright. everything looks great except for that ******* little light that came back on tonight.

Kevin. if you've got the knowledge and knowhow to come up with a solution for this little issue please follow through with it. something more companies should do before they make products available to the public:rolleyes:

Not to get technical but it's not really the actual down pipe. the actual down pipe says calloway on it. Any way the check engine light will keep coming back so don't waist your time re setting the radio. I will try to help the whole check engine annoyance by figuring out what kind of resistance the pcm is looking for. looks like a quality piece (props too maker!)
RX the pcm is programmed to see the voltage differential between the two sensors.
If the parameters become too close to each others readings they will trip the CEL.
Key is too have a larger voltage diff. and it will think the cat is working as designed.

oh yeah 1 more thing dont think about putting anything inline to the first sensor because it will make the problem worse. concentrate on #2:)

what if someone measures the voltages from a stock system, and then just provide those voltages to the ECU on the modified system?

They vary constantly. The ecu knows and needs to see it varying.
The only way is to clamp the second sensor voltage and modify it when you need to. Sorry guys but thats why i ran a cat. Not because my car wont pass emissions but because i didnt want a drivability code to **** with the system. It really is not that restrictive to put a high flow cat on.
Sorry please dont flame its just my 2 cents.:)

what if you program a microprocessor to constantly vary the voltage?

im just throwing out ideas that run in my head, im not even going to be running cat-less.

I am still waiting for my downpipe... I had mine thermal coated so they said it should take a few extra days..Anyway dont they have a device that you can splice into your O2 wire to send a false signal to the ecu so you wont get a cel????

Yes they do.

look you are kinda right perfworks but not really. The pcm monitors the the change in voltage. It wants the front 02 sensor to change voltage twice as many times as the rear 02 sensor, any thing more will be telling the pcm that the cats aren't working properly. the whole idea is when the exhaust gas comes out of the engine it is dry and hot, or moist and cool (hense rich/lean). look I am not going to write a page but I really don't think it's an easy fix. just ignore the light or put the stock s*** back on

Hmm sounds a little like what i said i guess i did not word it correctly :) sorry
no need for the stock stuff just run a high flow cat.;)

Oh yeah one more thing like i mentioned earlier , concentrate on # 2 because you just answered your own question rx.
You should try clamping the voltage to the second sensor similar to the devise used to turbo some of the N/A cars.
You never know it might work for those who refuse to run cats.
Its just a thought please dont get mad:)

perhaps they should make their customers aware of this. and maybe provide them with some gaskets as well;)

to keep the cost down for you guys on the downpipe, we did not incl. any gskts. the front turbo flange is a metal gskt which can be reused. the rear flange we reused the factory gskt with no exhaust leaks.
at this time we are testing the O2 eliminators from pony express. if it will work with the MSP, we will incl. it with the downpipe along with all new gaskts and hardware in the future. we will be posting a new price for the downpipe once we have the package done.
as you all know Injen has finished the intake system and will be out with in 2-3 weeks. we have 20 intakes on order with injen and will be offer an intro sale to the MSP forum members. i will post the price at a later date.
we are also working on a new turbo exhaust housing to replace the factory "s" housing for more flow.
please feel free to e-mail us @ apexcivic@aol.com with any questions.
thanks Ben

if I have a Mp3 and I gut the second cat then reset my ecu would I run into a check engine light? Or should I just go and buy a hi flow cat? or like I said go ahead and gut the cat and buy a O2 simulator? please help
Thanks,
Anthony

I am VERY interested in getting the DP.. but it is not worth it to me to have a CEL on all the time... I just dont like that... so if the CEL fix works,, I will for sure get one..

wow, isn't that special for you. now smuggle a bunch of those downpipes in your ass and start husslin across state lines to hand them out to people. you can charge them shipping and possibly make money on the deal. plus you'll learn the ever so cool trick of hiding things in your ass. i hear Yashooooooooa hides his banshee mimicing daughter in there when she's screaming her delightful little lungs off

now get movin!:D

guys please put a high flow cat on . it will take care of the problem once you mount the second O2 On the outlet side

ok i know i'm gonna get flamed on this one from someone but here it goes!

High-flow(supossed)cats are a joke! All cats must meet the the same EPA requirements regardless of whether they are high flow or stock.(period!)The only thing that makes a high flow(once again supossed)cat any different than a stock one is the size of the inlet and outlet.(2 inch vs. 3 inch for example)The inners of all cats look the same and have the same restrictive type honeycomb material that makes them function.Yes you may put a bigger high flow(supossed)cat on your ride but will it really flow any better? It probably will but not enough to justify the cost of them for performance reasons. The internals of the cat are what makes them restrictive.
Have you guys preaching about high flow cats ever wondered why the companies that produce these don't put up flow comparison charts?Well I know why!Because they don't produce enough of a difference to justify them.If you are going for performance(especially on a turbo car)you need a higher flowing exhaust .You may gain a small amount of overall exhaust flow by putting in a single high flow cat,but it will be gained primarily by eliminating one of the cats.I.E. less restriction. You may even gain a little more from upping the exhaust piping size and putting on a high flow but you will still be restricted by the cat, period. If you want the least amount of restriction then the absolute best way to go is no cats at all!Yes I understand the environmental issues you are referring to and yes a cat would solve the CEL issue but most of the guys on these boards with MSP's are looking for the best bang for the buck when it comes to making the MSP fly!The only drawback that these types of guys are going to run into is staring at the dreaded CEL light till we get the permanant fix together to trick the ECU.

This is not a rant and this is by no means directed at any one person,This is just the way I see things!
This is my .02 cents, feel free to chip in yours!;)
Matt:cool:
