Did anyone have problems fitting the alternator cooling duct/alternator heat shield back in after they installed an aftermarket down pipe? Thinking about cutting the duct off the heat shield so at least the alternator is protected from the downpipe. They alternator and dp are very close together like less than two inches away from each other. The dp is wrapped, poorly, but wrapped nonetheless. Will my alternator survive? Suggestions?

why did you take it off in the first place? i have the same DP and i didn't take off the alternator heat shield off.

I removed the whole effin alternator.... you take off the exhaust mani? And is your heat shield touching your dp?

hell no i didnt take off the mani or the alternator. all i did was take off the stock DP from the bottom up. in order to take out the top portion of the DP you have to undo the side MM and loosen the rear MM. support the motor from the bottom with a jack and have a friend or two pull the passenger side of the motor forward and the DP will slide out through the top. no need to remove any other part from the car. and no my heat shield is not touching my DP.

put the heat shield back on the alternator unless you want to replace it in a short amount of time. they are very sensitive.

did everything you said. There still wasnt enough room. Had to remove the alternator and even after that it took a good hour of finagling to get that mother out.

put the heat shield back on but its pressed against the dp.... do you think ill have any problems?

I also have an exhaust leak. I think its on the dp side of the v clamp. I cranked my car today after the install was over and let the car idle while I double checked everything in the engine bay. The ac was on and before i knew it smoke was pluming in the engine bay and into the car through the a/c. Im running 5w30 and ive had smoking issues before. Tomorrow im gonna switch to 5w40 and try tighten up the v clamp. I hope thats all it is....

how did things turn out for you? i have been considering your same exact turboback exhaust setup. hell of a deal for ~600 shipped for both parts.

Great, fixed the exhaust leak and switched to 5W40 and have had no problems. I also used a spark plug antifouler in the rear o2 bung and have avoided any CEL's. I love the tone, sounds great and pulls a hell of a lot harder.

are you positive it was an exhuast leak. after i put in my dp the car smoked on the first start up after it warmed up. it was just all the gunk and goo from me leaning on the motor and the manifold.
you supposed to wipe exhuast parts down with degreaser or brake cleaner before you start it up. i didnt and it smoked for a lil.
does the turbo sound different to you with the dp on?
