downforcers!!!

Are downforcers only for looks....or do they have other features... a friend of mine told me that downforcers are also used to cool down your front tires.... is that true??

they might add a little stability to your front end at speeds over 80 mph, but they might do nothing at all.

Acoupdetat, Downforcers on normal street driven cars do very little. At high speeds they may smooth the airflow out a bit but depending on installation may actually cause turbulence. Think of them as small wings. If installed improperly (meaning the leading edge at a positive angle) then they will produce lift upward. When installed properly they will produce a downward force. The small canards and wings that you see on race cars have all been strategically placed at precise angles and calibrations. So all in all the downforcers are pretty much for looks on our cars. Looks pretty good to me though.

those look ok, but they won't do anything performance-wise for you.

as far as cooling your tires, downforce does the exact oppposite. by pushing your tires into the ground with more force, it heats them up faster.

Looks only. They aren't pointed down at all. I've seen them on Mazda gulf coast region's turbo Pro 5. They look really good, but that's all they do.

Not to mention that if they DO cool your tires, you are getting rid of traction.. the warmer the rubber, the better the traction.

i dig the look of downforcers too. I want to install them on my speed3. anyone done it before?

(yeah I know...old thread)
