Im doing an mx5 (miata for you guys) rotary conversion and have limited options for where the oil cooler is to go ,so I brought a smaller oil cooler than than the standerd 0ne (s1 rx7 ) .Just wondering if there is any problems that could come from this.? I still have the standard one if required. cheers

i would recommend, if you are going to use a smaller cooler, not using anything that could further load the engine (a/c, p/s, etc.) since that would be further taxing on the motor. i'm sure it will be alright, but if you go turbo (what shadow is hinting at) you might want to use another oil cooler specifically for the turbo.

I thought some of the 12As came with a water cooled oil cooler... they were crude and ugly, the newer mazda designs are more compact and efficient... any reason why you can't go water cooled?

the oil cooler should fit fine right in front of the radiator with all the spare room the miata has. and without anything else to hinder airflow i dont see it causeing a problem

If you are actually contemplating using the honeycomb.. DONT.. they are the most inefficient oil cooler Mazda has ever run.. save yoru engine and just use the front mount.

yeah, that is the first thing pulled off of sa's. no one likes to keep them because they are inefficient and clog all of the time.

air to fluid is always better.

The one I brought is about the size of a batman oil cooler. And there is room to mount in the front of the radiator , just nothing to mount too, its all plastic in front of radiator. Ive also got oil temp and pressure gauges to i can keep an eye out if the smaller cooler is not working out or is in the wrong place

Ive just been tinkering this arvo, and I told a lie , there is a perfect place in front of the radiator to mount. Now to goe some cooler lines made up.(much longer than standard)
