Doors started to lock automatically?

this is a brand new phonomynon. It just started happening.

2003.5 MSP 68K miles. The doors have began to lock automatically 30 seconds after unlocking. EVERY TIME. Even if I KEEP THE DOOR OPEN! If I have the door unlocked and open and the key is in the ignition and I have the stereo going the subwoofer will set the alarm off as soon as the doors lock. This SUCKS!

The only way that I can keep the alarm off is if I allow my turbo timer to run down with the doors locked. But ANYTIME the car is not running the alarm will activate and the doors will lock. Please help me. Does anyone know why this would happen? Thanks.

bump for help.

TO BE CLEAR, IF YOU OPEN THE DOOR, START THE CAR, AND RUN INTO THE HOUSE BECAUSE YOU FORGOT SOMETHING, THE DOORS WILL LOCK YOU OUT OF THE CAR!!! That's a problem!

I'm NOT talking about unlocking the car/trunk and not opening a door and the doors lock. All the 2003 proteges do that. I know. I'm not dumb.

Mine always do the same thing. If you unlock the car and dont open the doors after about 30seconds the doors lock back up automatically. Im guessing it does that on purpose to make sure you dont leave your doors unlocked.

your car kicks complete ass, but unfortunately that answer doesn't help. the car has been doing this for a week now and I want it to STOP.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. why is this happening???? It drives me CRAZY.

ALSO LIKE I SAID, THE DOORS LOCK EVEN IF THEY ARE OPEN!!! THE CAR WILL NOT STAY UNLOCKED FOR ANY REASON.

its in the manual, its supposed to do that in case you accidentally hit the unlock, they assume that you walked away. it should still automatically lock if you only open the trunk, at least thats how it is in my P5 if i only open the hatch. im guessing laser blue's problem has something to do with that, thinking its always closed.

Mine also has always done this...:)
Allright Tom, how about this. My car has taken on a life of its own. Now it only locks the doors HALF the time. but...

I also get the ABS light coming on, the emergency BRAKE! light coming on, AND the dome light does NOT come on when the doors are opened (which really sucks at night). All of these thing happen at the same time. If one doesn't happen the rest of them don't happen, including the door locks. so...

Unless someone can help here I've got to take her to the stealership. I'm guessing it's either an electical problem like water in the fuse box, or this is a response from the computer freaking out because I'm low on rear brake pads and/or low on brake fluid when I use the parking brake/rear breaks too much. So first thing I'm doing is changing the rear brake pads, then I'll see how the car acts...the car drives and performs all electrical functions normally otherwise.

well say the sensors for the dome light and the sensor that tells the alarm that the doors are open are the same sensor, that would kinda explain why the dome light doesnt come on and the doors relock. now the abs light i think has something to do with you needing to top off the brake fluid since, from what i've read, when the pads are worn down the piston has to be pushed out more meaning more brake fluid in the lines or something like that.

^^^^^^^^
but why would all of these things happen at the exact same time. I'll be driving down the road for 20 minutes and all of the sudden the ABS light and parking BRAKE! light will come on, and the doors will all lock.?

If all this started at once I would bet on an electrical problem. Have you done any electrical mods at all? Not even just recently but ever? If you have maybe some of your handiwork wasn't right or didn't stand the test of time. If this is the case I think you should go through and check all your changes. Even if you didn't change anything maybe you'll find a melted wire or something.

If you do as you said and change the brakes and still have the problem... IMO to the dealer it should go. Brakes are as crucial as the zoom zoom. And no zoom zoom can't f%*$ your car up like loosing brakes at a bad time can. (deadhorse)

*thread jack* somewhat...is there anyway that you can make the lock automatically lock at say 10mp (ya know like a few other makes out there) i am in this habit of manually locking my doors once i get in the car....sorry for the thread jack....

Well some answers. My abs is freaking out now (VERY sensitive), so that means the wheel speed sensor is F'd up. I don't know if fixing that will fix everything, but that's where I will start. I'll let you know next week how it goes.

wheel speed sensor was causing the abs light and brake! light, fixed. and there was a wire that had a short that was causing the dome light to stay off, the doors to lock, the alarm to activate and the odometer to stay off, and that is now fixed as well. yeh

i just had this fixed on my car last month- i couldnt figure out what was causing the problem so i made the dealership fix it.....
