ok, sorry to bother you all with header Q's but i cant find the answer.

i am planning on getting rid of my mazdaspeed axel-back and getting a header/cat-back setup. i have already decided on the racing beat exhaust and am leaning towards obx for the header. does the obx header pass emissions? with my luck, i would be the one to get busted for it.

it wont pass a sniff test, but with the CEL non fouler trick itll pass an OBD2 test.

depends on what state you live in.

the technicality of the matter is that any protege header shouldn't pass any emissions testing, but it has for many members. just do it right, and you shouldn't have nay problems.

my setup was pieced together to give the appearance of "stock" without actually being stock. i have a ractive header, mazdaspeed protege 2-cat mid pipe, and magnaflow cat back exhaust. i live in NY and the emissions testing law says that all stock emissions equipment must still be in place as it was from the factory, and there should be no codes on the ECU. the 2-cat mazdaspeed mid pipe makes the shop think thats how the car was supplied, and having both o2 sensors plugged makes the computer happy, too.

the non-fouler trick will satisfy the computer, but if a shop that does the testing knows what they are looking at, they could fail you because the sensors are not where they should be and one of the cats is missing. if all they do is plug a reader into the OBD port, then you should be good.

Just keep the factory manifold on the shelve in your garage. Swapping the header for the manifold takes about an hour once you've done it a couple times.

thats what im screaming. i gotta wait for my grad party to come before i do anything though. hopefully it will help pay for most of the expenses lol
