Dog-proofing my MS3?

Small dog or big dog. Already trained to sit calmly in a car ?

My dog is a puggle (26lbs) I hook him up so he can't jump out, throw a comforter or sheet down for him and he is good to go.

Other dog is a rotty and I do the same thing she is about 80lbs.

I know they do sell something that looks like a doggy seatbelt that straps to the normal seatbelt of the car, but it forces the dog to only be able to sit and not move around.
 
lol we tried the doggy seat belt w/ one of our Basenjis....that was a no go, he always ended up upside down and tangled up....

Sorry should have said more about the dog. 40lb Collie, she is usually figidy (ex. Can't figure out which window to look out of lol).

Do you fold the seats down, or let them sit in the back seats?
 
I have a 150 lb rottweiler that takes rides with me in my MS3. I have Canine Covers door protectors and a hammock style cover by the same company. I also use a seat belt clip that attaches to my rottie's attack harness. Google "Canine Covers" or the search terms "pet travel" and you may find various options to suit your needs.

My wife has a 75 lb boxer and a 60 lb whippet mix. They travel in her Mini Cooper the same way.

IMHO, the safety belt clip is a must. Hope this helps.
 
I forgot to mention: I really like the Ruff Rider Roadie Harness. A google search will turn up their website. I think local pet stores also carry that harness.
 
I would go with the stuff Frankenstein is saying.

Both my dogs just lay down and go to sleep in the car so the comforter is plenty of protection for the car itself. Niether are strapped in because I am scared to do that god forbid anything were to happen and they got trapped. But that safety clip I've never saw here it was all full harnesses I may look into that for my own pups.
 
Check out www.autoanything.com Look under the category entitled "Pet Travel" There you will find the hammock style covers for the cargo area and bucket seats. You will also find the seat belt clip I mentioned.

Also, check out www.ruffrider.com for the Roadie Harness. My rottie is too big for the Roadie Harness so I had a custom harness made.

The harness you found is fine. The drool factor with the Roadie Harness is that it has been crash tested and there are options for things like saddle bags, etc.
 
Thanks for all your help. I ordered the Orvis hammock. For me the best part was that is was a khaki color which would hide my dogs loose hairs well. Once I get it, I'll test it out for awhile and look into the harness.
 
Good choice, Spar. The hammock style covers work great. Mine is khaki, too. The nice thing about the design is that is creates a barrier between the rear passenger compartment and the front seats. I leave the back seats up.

As for worries about your dog being trapped, keep a seat belt cutter in the car just in case. I bought my wife a Rescue Me window punch/seat belt cutter. Attach it to your key chain or leave it in the glove compartment.
 
I'm thinking about getting a hand gun and keeping it in the glove box. In the case of emergency I plan on just shooting my way out of my car lol.
 
Right on. In that case, I'd recommend a Five-seveN USG and a Benelli M4. Also, don't forget ear plugs. Discharging rounds in an enclosed space will make you deaf. LOL!

Ever seen cars with the sticker "RKBA" ? (Right to Keep and Bear Arms)

I had something happen when my pup was still just a little one.

On the parkway someones tire blew out and she skidded back and forth across all three lanes for a minute. Thank god everyone avoided her most cars just stopped to a halt but I was right behind her and put my car up onto the side of the road to avoid her, he was hooked up by his leash and the poor thing of course had his own accident and just jolted and fell off the seat he was tiny than but refused to sit in the seat I bought him. He is big now so maybe I should give it another try.
 
all these ideas are good, one other free thing you might want to think of is protecting the leather on the top of the seat. I modified a comforter so that it slips over the headrests and covers the top of the back seat as well as the back hatch. My dog is usually pretty set in the hatch area, but if he gets lonely and tries to jump over the seat the comforter protects the leather from fur and nails. hes a yellow lab/german shepard so fur is my biggest problem (black interior)
 
My dog refuses to sit anywhere, but my lap. Luckily I haven't been pulled over for it yet.
